Mouse questions?
Hi all. Recently I saw this gaming mouse. It has extra buttons on it. Looked helpful. So first off, are they useful? How do you assign an action to one of those buttions? Just from the people experienced using them, what are typical or reconmended actions assigned to them? Oh could someone reconmend one? Is there something I need to look for in the mouse? Is there a good web site to by one? Just looking at one of the big computer chain stores, they ranged from 50 to 100 bucks.
Thanks all. |

Re: Mouse questions?
The Logitech G5 and G7 are popular, as are all of the Razer mice. I personally use the Razer Copperhead (the symetrical one, as opposed to the Diamondback, which is right hand specific) and love it. Not sure if there is any 'best' website for gamin mice, but I usually find the most user comments/reviews over at Amazon.

Re: Mouse questions?
I use a simple microsoft wheel mouse. Its got three extra configurable buttons and it cost me maybe 30-50 bux.

Re: Mouse questions?
The Logitech MX1000 mouse is my personal "pointing device" of choice and its functionallity is absolutely fantastic. I used the method of assigning key strokes to the mouse (via the included software) and then assigning those key strokes to my action bars before dropping the required spell into the relevant slot.
Very, very easy. |

Re: Mouse questions?
Yeah, I used the MX1000 for about 2 years, when the battery stopped holding its charge. Great mouse.

Re: Mouse questions?
I've run the whole gambit of gaming mice and here is what I've found. Logitech G5: Fits comfortably in my hand (but is right handed friendly only) and the sensitivity controls are easily usable. Not as sensitive as other gaming mice. The custom weighting option seems silly at first but actually lets you create a really comfortable mouse. Only a few extra buttons. Razer Copperhead: Sensitivity controls take up 2 of the 4 extra buttons or you have no on-the-fly control of it. Extra buttons are great. Probably the best hand fit for most users. Not the most sensitive mouse on the market but on par with the G5. Form makes it one of the most comfortable mice for left handed users. Razer Lachesis: Sensitivity controls are easy to use. Mouse shape is a little small so it takes some getting used to. One of the most sensitive mice on the market. 4 extra buttons two on each side. Form is such that it is pretty much right handed users only. I use my G5 at work as for day to day none gaming use I find it to be the most functional and the custom weight means that my hand holds up well over long periods of use. At home for WoW and CS I use my Razer Lachesis. I've not found another mouse with that kind of feel and functionality. As to where to get them shop around for the best price or be lazy like me and buy any of them a the best buy nearest you.

Re: Mouse questions?
recommending one... I like the g5, it's fairly affordable in Australia ( I got mine for 80 bucks ). on the fly changing of the dpi setting, 2 extra buttons which you can customise and the weights...
in terms of setting up your extra keys, logitech provides a program much like the one which comes with the G15 keyboard. there you can assign default actions ( forward / backward I think is one of the option ) or you can do it like you'd set a G15. I bind it to ctrl shift 5 and ctrl shift 6 then in game ( WoW, WarcraftIII, Dawn of War etc ). I assign whatever action I want to "ctrl shift 5" or "ctrl shift 6" but instead of pressing that combo I just press the buttons on my mouse |
