Age of Conan Demonologist

There is a small chance that a new MMO could dethrone WOW

The new Conan seems impressive but may be disastrous. They have 12 character classes and one is the Demonologist that appears to have a Succubus pet. If this game becomes a success it would be cool if the Warlocks Den added discussion on the demonologist. There are alot of similarities between Conan and WOW. level 80 max get mount at level 40 three talent trees per class PVP BGs PVP, PVE and RP servers. Auction House and tradeskills

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

I actually mentioned a loooooong time ago, that if a game comes out that a lot of the members play, I can add a subsection to this area just for that game.

For example:

General Gaming
- Conan
- Game 2

That's particularly easy now with the new forum layout changes I made last night...

And of course, if a game ever does trump WoW (like wow did to EQ), then I'd love to have another crack at running a website for it. After all, eventually WoW will start to drop off, so I'll need something else to stress me out... I mean... um... spend my time on.

There are a lot of similarities (I also have a friend in Closed Beta so I'm getting to hear some info) and it will be interesting to see if Wow has a serious contender of if AoE ends up the same way as LOTRO.

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

I've been so busy I haven't even had a chance to THINK about other games let alone look at them... I might have to have a look at this one if it's similar to WoW though. I'm always keep to try new and great MMORPG's!

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

Hmmm...just took a look at the Homepage of "Age of Conan"....and either it is the worst homepage ever or i am just too stupid to use it. I mean...when looking at a new MMO then i want some information on the races/classes, character development and such.

But there is nothing...some stupid movies, but absolutely no information. Is it hidden somewhere or did they really decide to give no info on the Webby?

As for competition to WoW...i do not think there will be any in the next 5 years. MMO development will roughly take 3-5 years and as there is nothing planned or in work at the moment which could be a serious competition, we will probably have to live with WoW for the next years i think.

I personally am looking forward to Warhammer Online, as its surely the coolest Fantasy universe ever....but then considering that it is in development for more than 7 years now and will be centered around PvP....well still cant wait to play a Goblin Squig Herder

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

I also found their website to be more glitz than substance.
Here are some useful AoC links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_conan
http://www.wikiaoc.com/Main_Page

My old guild was talking about AoC quite a lot and I think a fair number of the people who quit WoW will be picking it up. At this time, the computer I have will NOT run it by any means so I am out of luck. I am hoping to get a new machine soon but I'm not holding my breath

The main thing I like about AoC are the classes, they all look rathering interesting. The reason I never tried LOTRO was that none of their classes appealed to me. With AoC I can't decide where to start!

Their combat system also looks more complex than click set keys in a row spammage. The amount of damage you deal is related to the direction you are facing your opponent and the angle of the blow etc.

WoW is the first, and so far only, MMO I have played so I am curious to see if the addicition will take hold with something else.

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

I am an original Asherons call player and I briefly tried Asherons call 2 but the death penalty in those games was just too annoying. And you had to power up your armor with stones to get the magical benefits of your armor.

In Age of Conan there are actually three mage classes and each will have an element of the warlock in them. The demonologist has been mentioned already his spells seem to be more direct blasting rathr than DOTS. The Necromancer spells from the info I have might be DOT heavy. And the herald of Xotli literally turns into a demon and does melee and has fear.

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

my friend attended the beta. after one night of it he decided:

the combat system is messed up: it is totally different from what they were making out.

the look and feel is very good.
the focus on professions being the way to get the best items seems good and it gives scope for a good economy etc.

his words: "it had scope to be 10/10, a real WoW killer.... from the beta it looks a 4/10... its like they had this great idea and ruined it by edging closer and closer to WoW"

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

I actually preordered AOC but canceled it after the game was delayed again to May. This is at least the 4th time AOC has been delayed, and that makes me nervous. With that being said, it looks like a game that could be incredibly fun to play with a lot of lore included. There are three or four classes I am really interested in (Dark Templar, Assassin, Demonologist, and Necromancer come to mind). I also think the concept of mounted combat is interesting to say the least. The game looks great, but the constant delays are a little unnerving. I signed up for the Beta last fall but still have never been selected.

I played the LOTRO Beta and found the game to be really boring and uninspired. I also played Guild Wars but didn't like it at all.

Hopefully Conan will be a good one, even if it doesn't conquer WoW!

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

One thing we were talking about at work yesterday is AOC's PVP setup... it is a complete free-for-all and there's rumors that you can loot other players that you gank. I'm not sure how n00b-friendly that's going to be when anywhere you go you can get ganked by anyone and everyone.

Seems to me like low-leveling could be very long and tedious... at least until the novelty of n00b-camping wears off and the big boys find something more fun.
