Seems to me like low-leveling could be very long and tedious... at least until the novelty of n00b-camping wears off and the big boys find something more fun.
What do you mean by "looting other players"? Looting as in taking everything, just some money, or certain pre-determined items? It seems rather absurd to me that people in the same faction could kill/gank each other. That is a recipe for complete disaster, as new people will never bother to play the game again after being ganked 15 times before reaching level 21. The reason I say level 21 is that another thing I had heard about AOC is that the first 20 levels are going to be strictly solo content, no grouping at all. I guess in theory this means you have your own private instance for 20 levels before being introduced to the real mmo of AOC.

In any case, I am not sure I would play a game that allowed my "friends" to kill me and loot my body repeatedly. Every time I finish a quest with a group, what would happen? Would it become a free-for-all killing spree?

Human nature states that this would be a complete disaster. At least that is my opinion....

My point exactly... I don't know the specifics of this as it was something passed on to me by a co-worker who has been seriously considering AOC... this was something that immediately made him say "well I'm not rolling on a PVP server"... and another co-worker who ganks for fun said "I think it's awesome".

Personally I tend to think along the same lines as the former.

I agree. I am going to roll some horde toons on a PvP server soon because it sounds like fun. But the thought of being ganked by people I am supposedly "friendly" with makes me ill. It would be complete anarchy, how would anybody ever level up? They would be too busy making corpse runs.

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

I have no plans what so ever to play Age of Conan but I can tell you a couple of things, for one you can;t even judge a game without actually playing. you just can;t watch videos and word of mouth are horrible flawed if you want to give it a fair shake you need to play it. Most MMO will get pushed back over and over again, it jsut happens and never will know why( best that way lol)

I don;t even understand the whole big hype or whatever you would like to call it over the MA rating it is such to get. All the even means to me is that there will be some nude chicks and maybe some dudes, more blood and swearing most likely. All of which would go over my head in a few days of seeing it, as I don;t care all that much about stuff I seen for year in different forms.

I for one am going to try my luck at Warhammer Online, we will see how well that will go whenever it comes out. Engineer here I come

What I would like to do is to find some players on my Server( Dalaran) that are planning on playing WAR and form a guild in WOW first to get to know them and thier style of play.

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

Uuuuuh - i just realized that AoC is done by Funcom who have also done AnarchyOnline......that probably says a lot about that game, at least i am now sure that i will not give it a try

Well, i played AnarchOnline for 2.5 years and while i liked the idea of a SciFi MMO better than the Fantasy szenario of WoW, i have to say that development and support were the worst that i have ever seen in all my MMO life.

Let me give you some stories which i still remember:

When a new content patch was coming, it was usually full of bugs....no, not that small bugs which you also know from WoW...i mean real bugs. I remember that when you played an Adventurer (class in AO) and uploaded a new Nano which came with the patch (like learning a new spell in WoW) then you would disconnect and could not log into the game anymore. It took the Devs more than 6 weeks to get rid of that bug....so if you were playing AO and this Adventurer was your main Char you could not play for 6 weeks lol.

And then the Expansions.....OMG.....worst i have seen in my life. When the Shadowlands Expansion was out and we bought it in the shop it was not finished lol. 2 of the playfields were not accessible at that point and were opened some month later after the content had been uploaded with some Patches. Imagine that The Burning Crusade came out and you would not be able to go into Netherstorm or Shadowmoon....that was really the case, it was unbelievable.

Even more funny were the new quests as none of them was working. During the first days after the expansion we were running through those new areas which we could already access, looking for not-bugged quests. But really ...there was none...we looked for days and there was not a single working quest which could already get completed. Took them more than a week before the 1st quest could be finished if I recall correctly

Well, that was many years ago and things can change....but Funcom was always a small North-europe company with only few money and few people working if i remember right, so i would not expect any good support and content-patches there. AoC seems also to be very small as most people do not even know it exists.....few people playing = no money for development i would guess.

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

I am really torn on whether to play AoC or not. I preordered it in February but canceled after the game was delayed (again) until late May. I am going back and forth with the whole thing. I am really enjoying WoW again, and there is no way I have the time for 2 mmo's in my life . Part of me is afraid that if AoC turns into a great game that I will miss out on the beginning of it (like I did with WoW). However, dropping $100 on a preorder is a little steep to me, especially if I don't like the game. I like a lot of the concepts I have seen from it, including the "real time combat", mounted combat, and some of the classes (i.e. demonologist, necromancer). Also, Eidos has a part in the production/development of the game, and I loved Deus Ex (although the 2nd one sucked).

I think I am going to hold off on it and take the chance that it will suck and die a thousand deaths like Star Wars: Galaxies. I remember getting excited about Guild Wars and LOTRO, and being monumentally disappointed in both of them. Hence, I still play WoW and no others.

A little off topic, but something that occured to me while reading the below quote:

If this is true: it will force gold sellers to level up characters to level 20 in order to peddle their hacks and may even stop it altogether in this game since only legit accounts could be used to interact with the economy and other players. I like the sound of that.

Otherwise; As we know, Blizzard can be seen as this awesome, monstrous entity made entirely from our money and can get a lot of hate, but at least they have the means to invest into the development of WoW. Most AO players played subscription free, so whilst quite popular it didn't really allow Funcom the chance to flourish in the business in quite the same way. Perhaps their fortunes will change with Conan, but a lot of that rides of providing a near to flawless product in the first place.

Woh, where did you spend $100 on a pre-order? Did you order a Special Edition or something? You can go to several game retailers and get the pre-order for $49.99. Would that change your mind since its not quite a hefty throw away, if the game tanks.

I had a chance to get into the beta pvp weekend last sunday. I was able to play Tortage to level 5 which was fun for nearly every class I played. I had fun, but the problem was from level 5 to 20 was instant for the PvP stress test. Not enough time to figure out what skills did what. I was kinda lost in PvP because of being granted level 20 and not working there myself. But I still had fun, and I am not a big PvP fan. I admit I did more of the PvE testing out characters. My play was kinda short though, didn't get to test all weekend as I would have liked to. The download from a gaming area (not mentioned) had a problem with the download. So, I had to find an alternative location and from Friday night at around 8 pm till Sunday afternoon I was still downloading the Beta Client. The beta PvP server was only up from Friday 16:00 - Monday 16:00. I only got to play about 4 hours before I had to go to sleep and get up for work the next day. I didn't get to the demonologist like I would have liked to!

I did play the Necromancer which was fun. Survivability was better than I expected. The One dot I was given hit hard. I had a few direct damage spells that did decent damage as well. Mobs usually dropped either before they got to me, or after they got 1 hit on me. I got a summonable demon at (I think) level 3. Played a little PvP and got stomped by melee (which I am used to). But levels 1 - 5 the necromancer was quite a bit of fun. Necromancer does Ice and Unholy magic. So it was more of a Mage/Warlock combo with a cute skinless demon. If you wanted your demon to tank for you, forget it. When the demon hit, the target would come running for the person controlling the demon.

There are some bugs with the game still but I would give it a 8 out of 10. With the bugs I seen, (this is my opinion so don't shoot me if it doesn't come true) after playing the game I wouldn't be surprised if it got delayed again past the May 20th due date.

Yes, I ordered the Special Edition because of the cool in-game stuff you get. I figure that if I am going to preorder a game, I should go all out .

Thanks for the info on the game. I am not happy that I was never selected for Beta testing. I applied a long time ago, never heard anything.

Re: Age of Conan Demonologist

Age Of Conan: Hyborian Adventures

To get to the info about classes, races, etc,.. you have to go the community section. For those who mentioned earlier in the thread that they couldn't find info. Plus the wiki's linked earlier are good sources of info.

From reading the wiki's and watching pvp videos , it looks like the Demonologist is going to be the heavy dps caster. The pet looks more like a support caster/nuker for extra damage but not the entire point of the class like a WoW warlock.

Also for the comment about 1-20 being solo only...the island of Tortage is for 1-20 but you have 2 ways to play, Night and Day. If you play at Night its all solo quests and content, but if you play during the day you can group with other plays on the island. To switch between the 2 you just have to go to the inn and sleep, swaps instantly between each type.

I see the point about gold sellers capitalizing on selling level 20 toons, but really there is no way to make a game that you can't capitalize on something. Every game is going to have gold sellers or people selling pre-leveled toons, not something you can really avoid. There will always be people looking for an angle to make money or make the game easy for lazy players.

One last comment...if I had to compare this to any other game it wouldn't be WoW, the look and feel of the game makes me think more of Dark Age of Camelot (which I loved but stopped to play WoW)
