Lord of the Rings Online
I no longer play LOTRO but I was wondering if any of the Den's visitors ever had, or if they continue to do so?
I played a Dwarf Champion to about level 35, had enough money for the mount, and was part of a Guild but.....at level 35 its practically impossible to do any further solo levelling as the vast percentage of the quests are based around a fellowship (party). The guild wasn't particularly active so getting reliable assistance in finishing my quests was quite difficult so I reluctantly stopped playing. On the plus side, its a gloriously beuatiful game with evocative locations, excellent music, and a very "true to background" series of story arcs that were a pleasure to play through (When you first hit the Barrow Downs for example...or wandering through Bree when its lit by starlight.....) so personally I find it quite a shame than I never got Gaerun to the endgame. |

Re: Lord of the Rings Online
Human Lore-Master here. I got someplace around level 15. I chose the Lore-Master because it was the closest thing to a warlock i could find. Magic user with a pet. It was fun, a little more refined than WoW, but I kind of like that roughness WoW has to it.
One thing I loved about LOTRO was that the world evolved with you. One of the quests i got to do involved a raid on the town I was in, when the event was over, the town was destroyed. The buildings were burnt and black, fires raged on, people were tossed onto the streets... and it remained that way evermore. A friend I had made hadn't done that quest yet, and we managed to stand directly on top of each other, using the mini map, yet couldn't see each other. He was in the past I guess. It not only showed that the world was changing, a progression of time in the story, but it also would help to prevent power leveling as higher level characters wouldn't be able to go back and run lowbies through areas to level them quickly. I love the novels, and the game was pretty good. I'm just a wow addict. |

Re: Lord of the Rings Online
I left WoW for a brief period to play in the LoTRO beta, eventually buying a lifetime subscription.
My highest level character is a 43-ish burglar, and I have an assortment of lower level toons. While the game is a good one, I found it lacking in higher level solo content. And some of the grinds there are (or maybe I should say were) horrible. Trying to find the burglar legendary book pages had me killing off over 200 of the same mobs and still not getting the two pages I needed. Eventually I started looking at WoW again and truly examining why I left it. It wasn't the game so much as the role I was trying to play in my guild (warrior tank). I had burned out because of it. Needless to say, I reactivated my account, tranferred my (then level 68.5) warlock to a new server (sever the old ties and such) and the rest is history. I am much happier now as a warlock than I ever was as a warrior. I keep telling myself that I am going to spend a day here and there playing my old burglar. But I always end up finding something to do in WoW... |

Re: Lord of the Rings Online
I tried it, got whatever the equivalent of the dps warrior is up to about level 18 and decided I didn't like it. The environment was fantastic but I hated the combat engine with a passion (cued skills and such) and the lack of pvp.
Also, I hate the jump emotes the characters have.. after wow, if the game doesn't jump well I don't want it >.< |

Re: Lord of the Rings Online
I played the Beta and found the game to be rather boring and lackluster. The concepts were nice, but the actual gameplay was just not that good. I hated the idea of grouping for everything at higher levels, some of us are not able to commit to that style of gameplay on a consistent basis.
And yes, no PvP was rather lame in my opinion (unlocking a monster class so you can fight human players is NOT pvp, sorry Turbine). |

Re: Lord of the Rings Online
I played a level 50 human champion in LoTR when it first came out. I thought the game was very boring and quit shortly after hitting level 50, the only reason I even lasted that long is I thought maybe I would have more fun at 50.. but nope it was even duller.
The game does have alot of cool features but for the most part is just a weak version of WoW imo. |
