I'm a QURer! (quote, unquote, reply), but that's usually when I am either wanting to address specific parts of a persons post, or replying to a lot of people in one hit.

What I hate is the 'quote a whole post and put a 3 word reply' people! Grah!

I just use linux. Odds are in my favor against a virus. And it still plays WoW.

Good and free. DOesn't eat up the resources that Norton would either.
It's a scan though not protection. You should never download from random sites or download random crap. P2P//torrents equal bad security as well.

I know that it has been mentioned in this thread and in other posts. But Firefox with AdBlock and NoScript are pretty rock solid. You have to add AdBlock and NoScript seperately after you install Firefox. But I have had Zero problems since I started using them. NoScript is a little annoying, b/c you have to give each site permission to run and use flash or java script. It is a small price to pay next to reformatting the hard drive and re-installing everything.

Last time I did it, it took me hours just to get WoW back on the machine and my add-ons working the way I like them again.

you see linux, tried to become userfriendly within the last 10 years+, but it still isn´t. Do not expect someone to RTFM all day long, just to install Linux on your HDD without overwriting other partition, having the right partition, having the right filesystem for each partition...you know and that happens within the first 5 minutes after you inserted the cd to install Linux, so by now a "normal" user would have to reboot into his windows and ready up on a huge pile`o´information.
Oh and another thing:

30 freaking years of UI-development went completly by the Linux(or any derivate thereoff)-community.

So back to topic, actually it has been said before, but usually "you" are the best virus-protection.

Don´t visit shady websites or even download stuff there.
Keep your Browser and your OS updated.
Turn of unneccessary features in your browser.
Do not surf or play as ADMIN.
Do configure NAT in your router.

Anyways Virus-scanners are mostly http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snake_oil
