Re: Any Magic The Gathering players?
I stopped playing about a year ago, but now I work at our local card shop, so I still have to remember enough about the game to be helpful... which I still do lol
I played Black/Blue counterspell, Slivers, I had a blue creature kill deck, and a lot of pre-cons that I made competitive. As for helpful sites, I like Essential Magic - Home Has deck ideas for standard, extended, and type 1 so its nice to see some concepts and what's popular.. also, ewww elves! (As a blue player, I'm naturally biased lol) |

Re: Any Magic The Gathering players?
Wow...this game is still being played? I see the cards in shops now and then, but I thought mostly for collectors. The last time I played was 12-13 years ago. I had green/red and white/red decks as my primary. I also used the bruiser deck listed above. Haven't touched since married and kids. I think my younger brother has all the cards in a closet somewhere.
Brilliant game though. |

Re: Any Magic The Gathering players?
I played pretty hardcore in the tournament circuit for a few years beginning with beta (black-bordered base set) and sort of lost interest around Fallen Empires. Fave decks:

Re: Any Magic The Gathering players?
I gave up playing during my university studies when I sold all of my cards for tuition money
I think I'm one of the few I know who made more money than I spent on these cardboard narcotics. I was a big fan of lockdown decks. My favorite was a blue/white millstone/island sanctuary/Acheologist deck that just sat on it's butt and won by the opponent running out of cards (AKA - decking). Lot's of counterspells and other evil. I called it my pacifist deck because it was literally impossible for me to deal damage to my opponent with it. My friends tell me it was one of my most annoying decks ever![]() |

Re: Any Magic The Gathering players?
I played a pacifist deck too they are fun and they make people really angry :D Walls and hand attack cards ftw. I also enjoyed my blue/red deck massive damage vs player and walls/defense out the wazoo.

Re: Any Magic The Gathering players?
I know this is slightly off topic, but you know what card game I miss most of all? Vampire the Eternal Struggle (WtES) - also know as Jyhad in the early days of the card game. It was an absolutely wretched 2 player game, but it was easily the most enjoyable 3-6 player card game I ever played. Lots of evil diplomacy involved. I still have my old decks laying around, just no one around that still plays it

i still play quite a bit, and if you're going elf now, put in some elvish perfects, wolf skull shamans and perhaps splash black in

Re: Any Magic The Gathering players?
I remember magic to this day. Some of the best times were just playing unrestiricted decks against my friends. My 3 Favorite Decks to play, which I still have today, were an all blue/artifact deck powered by a Tolarian Academy. I threw in a Palyncron (sp?) and after having a certain amount of land and artifacts out I could create and infinite mana combo(gotta love untapping lands in the middle of your turn). Toss in some helpful artifacts like Mishra's Helix and a Karn and you get lockdown like never before. This was my most flexible deck.
My other deck was a rainbow sliver deck. I know rainbow decks are supposed to suck but I have not a single basic land card in the deck. I forget which set it was but it brought a lot of good multi color lands into play. Slivers were my favorite as all of them shared their abilities with one another. Again I had an infinite combo in this deck in the Queen, rack, and heartstone. Infinite flying slivers that get +3/+3, first strike, rampage, can't be targeted by spells or abilities.... Throw in a Coat of Arms and you have the largest, stongest army ever ![]() My final deck and probably the most dominant of the three was an all black Hatred deck. If you add red in and a lot of luck it had the potential for a first turn kill, before your opponent even had a chance to pick a card up. The deck was fast a furious literally and figurativly. This one was mainly powered by the Mox Diamond, not as good as it's older brothers and sisters but still a killer in the right deck and hand. Generally you were guarenteed to have them at about 5 pts of life after the first 3 turns, faster if you can pull off a Hatred sooner. I've come to miss my time playing the game but the timing was just right for me to stop. I didn't talk to any of my friends I used to play with after highschool and thus the game kinda faded for me. It was a ton of fun while it lasted though, especially when I was able to spend a good amount of money on putting my decks together. One last thing, I loathe all you counterspell/hand controllers out there... even to this day lol . |

"Vampire the Eternal Struggle (VtES) - also know as Jyhad"
I did not really play this much but I remember everyone going gaga for the Ivory Bow card. Any old-school Magic players remember the Chaos Orb and the arguments that card caused!? ![]() |
