Re: Cheapest GFX Card for Full Settings

If you're looking for a cheap card, you'll be able to crank up all the settings except the shadows.

I used an ASUS 8500 TOP for a while... of course the rest of my system cost $1k so I don't know how it would perform in a cheaper system. That, and it appears to be discontinued. On that note, I'd suggest the ASUS 9500 TOP because I had such good performance out of my 8500.

Just make sure your PSU can handle whatever you buy.

Re: Cheapest GFX Card for Full Settings

check out

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

that's where i got mine, they have some good priced graphic cards. i paid right around $100 for mine.
i know you asked for the cheapest, but at least you can check out the selection here.

i have learned though that a graphics card that has onboard memory really makes a difference,
i have the BFG GeForce 8500, it has 512MB memory on it. works good for me. plus i do have 2GB memory on my PC so that always help. i would suggest topping off the max memory on your PC. you may already have, but i just thought i would throw that out there.

Re: Cheapest GFX Card for Full Settings

I recently bought an XFX brand GeForce GTS 250, 1GB.

Newegg had one for around $150, with a full retail copy of CoD5.

I run every graphical setting at max (with the exception of Shadows, which KILL frame rates) @ 1680x1050.

Re: Cheapest GFX Card for Full Settings

oh yea, the shadow effects are incredible, really looks awesome but they do tear up the FPS. i keep that really low, i also keep the view distance a bit lower as well. only do whats necessary; no need to go overboard on graphics if your card can't handle 100%

i would rather play with low graphics details and actually be able to play the game rather than suffer low FPS and look at awesome graphics.

Re: Cheapest GFX Card for Full Settings

Sorry to be a pain but has anyone tried Sapphire HD4670? At that price I can't resist, may even add another in crossfire at a later date.....

Any opinions on it will help, thanks again

Whatever you decide; First make sure it will fit in your case, some of the new cards are huge. Second, make sure you have the power supply to run it. Factory installed power supplies are mostly lacking the power to run the high end cards and the black screen with full sound is not a lot of fun.

No probs there, I built th pc myself into a full size case, I used to have a 9600GT in there and it fit fine, PSU was fine again so I don't expect any problems. Just don't really play games (except wow, which is more of an addiction than a game) so I'm trying to get away with the least possible expenditure
