This hack will only affect the reported latency - not your actually game data latency.
It could be that Blizzard doesn't know what they're talking about ;) but their own faq contradicts what you said.

Anytime your computer receives incoming data, it is sent to a "port". Your computer has many ports that can receive data, and different activities will utilize different ports. World of Warcraft & Burning Crusade use TCP port numbers 1119 and 3724 to play, and UDP port 3724 for in game Voice chat. The Blizzard Downloader, which downloads patches, also uses TCP ports 6112 and the range 6881-6999. For walkthroughs on router and firewall configuration you can use the Networking Help for the Blizzard Downloader page.
Maybe you know something they don't? Or their own FAQ is out of date?

All I know is my latency went down, my DPS time as reported by WWS went up and so did my overall DPS.

Re: What's your LATENCY? LEATRIX Latency FIx

Is there anyone that had disconnect issues(such as almost every boss in ulduar you DC) in the past that has tried this and had it fix their DC issues?

Im in Ulduar as we speak, and working as intended. 51 Latency - 67 FPS on bosses.
No disconnects

Re: What's your LATENCY? LEATRIX Latency FIx

Um, this is the same issue that comes up in tons of games/efficiency forums.

And, it doesn't work.

My god, there have been tricks like this since I first started using the internet in 91. I used to tell clients to utilize potential "tweaks" to maximize speed years later.

The best ones are ones that actually show something on screen that the client can see, such as the recent Xbox LIVE Arcade "tweak" where your download would suddenly jump to 60% finished. People LOVED that one, and ate it up.

Too bad it wasn't actually doing anything except making the little bar graphic on screen jump to 60% done.

But like I said, those type are the best, because people really feel they are getting something.

Other types need very in-depth instructions to accomplish one of these tweaks. They utilize a proven psychological device where a person feels that the more stuff they have to perform to accomplish something, then the better it will work.

You're ISP and connected servers control 99% of the latency that you see every day. Registry tweaks and 200$ "gaming" networking cards can only do so much.

The computer cannot somehow "suck" information down your pipeline quicker than normal by altering anything ON that computer. There are ways to make games run more efficiently by smoothing latency spikes and FPS due to lag. WoW already does this to the best of it's ability.
BUT, your software cannot tell your ISP to send packets faster. Sorry. Seeing your latency in WoW go down sharply is nothing but a placebo effect.

granted Im not reading to the end of this thread, but if this is just MTU fixes, etc...it isnt going to fix your lag.

the fact of the matter is that it takes time to send the data back and forth between your machine and the thousands of servers on the internet. THe more activity is going on on a server the slower it will be to respond, and that includes all theservers between your machine and theirs.

if you want to reduce latency issues, do so by supporting politicians who push technology and dont like their countries being low on the list when it comes to global connection speeds (like the USA).

Does anyone have a link to this Leatrix Thingy to post on this thread?

Also, unguided quick registry self-tweaking is the fastest way to an inoperable computer! The easiest way to back up your registry is to create a system restore point. Windows makes a copy of your registry within the restore point itself, no fuss no muss!

Re: What's your LATENCY? LEATRIX Latency FIx

Yes, it does work. Microsoft even implemented it specifically for latency-sensitive communications. Its been an option for almost 10 years now since they put that in (starting with Windows 2000).

Here:

Instead of sending an acknowledgment for each TCP segment received, TCP in Windows 2000 and later takes a common approach to implementing delayed acknowledgments. As data is received by TCP on a particular connection, it sends an acknowledgment back only if one of the following conditions is true:
  • No acknowledgment was sent for the previous segment received.
  • A segment is received, but no other segment arrives within 200 milliseconds for that connection.
Typically, an acknowledgment is sent for every other TCP segment that is received on a connection unless the delayed ACK timer (200 milliseconds) expires. You can adjust the delayed ACK timer by editing the following registry entry.
So, if you don't implement it, Windows, by default, waits 200ms to send another ACKnowledge packet. 200ms is a LONG time in WoW.

Nobody is saying this is going to magically make your comms between Bliz and your PC faster. What it DOES do is acknowledge packets faster, so when you do something (or Bliz tells you THEY did something), its acted upon, immediately, instead of waiting up to 200 milliseconds.

Hopefully this clears things up a bit for the naysayers. I doubted it too when I first heard about it, but I did the research, did the registry change, and, as many people have stated, IT WORKS.
