Okay, first, I need to say that I am a noob to WOW. I am working up my first lock and should hit 80 tonight or tomorrow. I'm specing to a 3/13/55 build. The plan is to start doing some raiding with my guild once I hit 80. This will be my first 80 and so I have little to no dungeon experience to draw on. I see quite a few people talking about using CoD in their destruction rotation and I would appreciate why I should be using CoD rather that CoE? I must have missed something because in regular teams, it seems that CoE generates more overall dps than CoD. Please help me to understand. Thanks. |

Re: Curse Explanation Help Needed
There are a few times when you will use CoE vs CoD and it depends on your raid composition. If you have an Unholy DK specced into Ebon Plaguebringer you will use CoD If you have a Moonkin specced into Earth and Moon you will also use CoD Unless the mob will die in less than the minute it takes for CoD to explode. In that case use Curse of Agony. If you don't have either of those two classes or they are not specced into those talents just use CoE and you should be good. |

CoD is good damage for a few reasons: 1) it does more damage than CoE boosts for YOU personally 2) it allows more casts (fewer GCDs used) than Curse of Agony The debate, to which I have not added any testing), is when does CoE surpass CoD? It really depends on two things: If you have a Moonkin or Unholy DK in the raid (CoE is almost worthless at this point), and how many casters you have in the raid. Good luck with your raids.

I don't think I have a single combat log where CoD is 13% of my total damage. |

CoE would be by far the best choice if you did NOT have a Boomkin or Unholy DK...so CoD is the next best choices (on fights with over 1 minute left), otherwise Curse of Agony (if anything...).

Re: Curse Explanation Help Needed
i was asked by a RL to use COE despite having a dk putting up ebon plague. the reasoning was due to the resistances reduction. I can see the logic behind this and raid DPS is more important than personal DPS but are resistances an issue in ulduar? Ade |

Re: Curse Explanation Help Needed
Curse of Weakness can be used aswell to increase the dps for mellee in your raid group. When raiding 25 man ulduar, thats how me and two other locks usually decide. One CoE(if needed), one does weakness and the other can choose between CoD or Curse of Agony. If we have a boomkin present, then its two people who decide between CoD and Curse of Agony. Its amusing to sometimes see a doomguard randomly popping up after a bossfight

Re: Curse Explanation Help Needed
CoW is often provided by other classes too (warriors using Devestate/Sunder, druids using Faerie Fire?). Not sure on the resistance issue... it could be the simple fact that CoE is a 5-min debuff, which is pretty much hands-off, while Ebon Plague requires the player to be paying attention. I can easily put CoE on all 2-4 things at the start of a fight and then not worry. Makes it easier for the OT to build magic-based threat on the secondary targets while we burn the primary. |

Re: Curse Explanation Help Needed
you can have more than one CoD up (at least you used to be able to). so once you've decided that the utility curses are covered and there is enough time for the CoD to proc you should all drop CoD. |

You can only have one up now, because it has a 1 minute cool down together with the 1 minute duration means you can only have one up at a time.. |
