D&D - Who else here plays/played?
Hey, Just wondering who else here plays/played D&D, of any edition? I've been playing since i was in middle school, so thats about 14 years now or so. Me and my friends started with 2nd edition but we're all currently playing 3.5 (we refuse to buy all new books AGAIN to upgrade to 4th). We try to get together once a week to play our main campaign, but we have several smaller ones within our larger group for those of us that live near each other. For those that have played, what are some of your best memories from the game? Favorite encounters, characters, dungeons, items, whatever? |

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
I played the 1st edition and 2nd edition of DnD. Starting back in 1976 and played through the early 1990s. At last though I no longer have my books as they were lost while moving , but I still have my dice and lead figures We even have a local DnD Chapter that still meets in our local Hobby shop (small town) every Saturday Night. I also maintain a DnD website for my friends ( www.legendsofmythgar.com) these guys write real cool short stories on the blogs and still meet to play DnD and they still use paper and pencils![]()

Wow that's a cool site. You guys put in a lot of history for your campaign setting. My group of friends all use Forgotten Realms for our adventures just because of all the source material available. The campaign we've been running the past few years is now coming to an end and I'll have to hang up my neutral evil Half-Elf Warlock who often consorts with a Sucubus Sorcerer Looking forward to starting our next campaign though as soon as this ones over. Gonna try out an all vampire campaign, should be interesting.

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
Played a lot in early 80's til late 80's. Best memory...hmm. Probably when I forgot the conversion of scale when using maps and figurines. The scale changed by half. The DM had such an evil snicker when he had the group start (and seemingly endless) rolls when my fireball damage encompassed our group due to the scale oops. Every bloody magic item the group had, had a chance to blow and cause damage, and of course force another roll etc, etc. Great fun, seeing as I lived, killed a demigod of some sort (who was also taking all that collective damage)...with all my buddies dieing .I seem to recall one of them putting out an assassin contract on me after that one .

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
I've played from the early 1990's on, starting with 2nd edition. My friends moved up to 3 and 3.5, but I only liked about 1/2 of the new ruleset. I have pretty much stopped playing now, but occasionally work towards my own campaign world with it's own set of rules. Something of a mix between 2nd and 3rd editions, with concepts from WoW tossed in there too. My user name here (and my main's name in WoW) comes from one of my favorite characters, Aralin of Cormanthor - an elven cavalier I played in the late 90's. But my all-time best character is Mickey Dragonbane, a character I've taken through 75 levels of advancement in three different classes (theif, mage, and fighter).

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
I started playing in 82 until roughly 92. I used to have a ton of adventure modules, still have many, but most are gone to who knows where. I loved most of the offical modules but particularly remember Against the Giants, Descent into the Depths of the Earth, Queen of the Demopn Web Pits, and the Slave Lords series. I also enjoyed the computer games. Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale were great. These days I don't really pay a lot of attention to anything but the various novels. Reading the Pirate King right now. |

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
While my girlfriend has a lot more stories to tell about D&D, I've played a bit with 4.0 though our campaign got cut short when one of the people in the group said he wouldn't be able to make it anymore. Until then, I was a Tiefling wizard. |

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
While I did play a bit of D&D when I was a kid in the early 80s, most of my pencil and paper RPG experiences were with the Palladium/Kevin Siembieda D20 series like TMNT, Rifts and Robotech. Rifts especially, we tended to fold any of the other games as source material into our Rifts campaign. Lots of fun at the time, haven't played a paper RPG in a looong time, 16-17 years or so I'd reckon. I don't even know who I'd play with even if I wanted to, and I really don't at this point in time. I do, however, have a huge stack of Rifts sourcebooks in a box some place. It's neat how you can see a direct line from Tolkein -> D&D -> Final Fantasy/Ultima -> World of Warcraft. Themes, the damage systems, always evolving on top of what has come before. Last edited by Cursalock; August 26, 2009 at 02:56 PM.. |

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
So how do/did you like 4.0? I've heard it makes combat go a lot faster, which would be nice seeing as how we can spend several hours on one large encounter in 3.5. But I really can't justify starting my book collection over again; plus I've heard that D&D 4.5 probably isn't that far away to fix the issues 4.0 does have. |
