Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
4.0 seemed pretty fun to me. I don't have a lot of history with 3.5 but it seemed like folks were liking some of the changes while they were missing some of the older ways of things. One of the things I liked in 4.0 was the minion monster type. Basically if you roll to hit, and it lands, the minion is dead (you don't have to worry about knocking down hit points for it). What this did was make really large battles possible without your group getting overwhelmed. At one point in our campaign, we made a surprise attack on an army while they were preparing for a siege on a border town. There is nothing quite like being able to storm in with a party of five and decimate about 30-40 "soldiers" along with 5-6 of their generals. The generals were obviously pretty nasty, but the warpath to them was quite nice.

That is a pretty good idea about one shotting minions. I may have to look into the specifics of that rule and see if it can be easily implemented in 3.5. |

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
Me and my brother started playing in the early 80s around 80-81 or so. I remember there being a movie about some kids playing a D&D type game and someone getting killed and my parents not liking it lol. We played all through middle school into high school. After that it got harder to get a group of people to play. |

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
Yeah our group is slowly spreading out more and more. But we try to make it work cuz we all enjoy the game so much. There are online tools to help play over the net but most of us have no desire to resort to that, at least not yet haha. |

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
started with Red Box Basic set, then had my uncle's 1st Edition AD&D rule books bequethed to me (including a bunch of Dragon Magazines). Played in 2nd Edition, and a little in 3rd. I REFUSE to touch that abomination before Gygax that is 4th Edition. The Player's Handbook that I bought at launch is all those bloodsucking hacks at WoTC are getting out of me while 4th Edition lives. |

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
So have you guys that have played ever gone to GenCon over the years? I've been there a few times and its always a lot of fun. The convention hall is always cool, seeing all the booths and people in costume, but the best part for us was always getting to play uninterrupted for 3-4 straight days. |

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
I was kinda into DnD back in '05. I played the star wars d20 game that was based on it first, though. I was a half-elf wizard. It was pretty cool. I stopped playing DnD, but I still play the star wars game from time to time. |

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
I also started with the Red Box Basic Set and progressed through to the Black Box. I moved onto the 1st and 2nd Edition versions and Forgotten Realms before stopping play early 90's when I got into Gamesworkshop miniatures. I've still got all my books and modules sitting in storage boxes in my garage and occasionally flick through them for old times sake

Re: D&D - Who else here plays/played?
I only played paper and pencil D&D a couple times, but when I was in a highschool I read a lot of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time (not D&D I know) and Weis & Hickman's Dragonlance (sort of D&D) books. I still read them now. (Wheel of Time is taking forever to finish ) Dragons of the Hourglass Mage just got here yesterday as a matter of fact and I have been enjoying that. I also have the books for 3.5 and have 4.0 on my pc. While not as complete as WoW, I did enjoy the free trial of D&D Online. I have no friends that play that though so I never subscribed to it, but if I did have friends I am not sure I wouldn't switch up. I also played and loved the NWN games. My main character was a Tiefling Warlock. Fun stuff. |
