Buying a new rig, looking for opinions/suggestions please.
Has anyone dealt with Cyberpower PC? They have a BBB rating of B+ and rateresellers.com gives them 8 out of 10. They seem to be a quality company but before I drop $1400.00 I would like to get some feed back. here's what stands out to me in the above stats: *memory: i think that motherboard has 4 memory slots so you have some room for expansion...and the memory they're giving you looks nice and fast. *HD, nice hard drive, but geeks would have 2 of them and either raid them or put the virtual drive and apps on the 2nd (least that's how it used to be done). *power supply: looks good *video card. not bad (i have this one coming to me in the mail actually), geeks would have 2 of them. you could skimp on some of the other excess and get a bigger card (or two of them) though. *motherboard. not up on them, but it looks like it has what you need *cpu. not up on them either

Re: Buying a new rig, looking for opinions/suggestions please.
I bought a 17" laptop from cyberpower a few months ago. it was the best hardware i could find for the price (~$850) -Intel(R) CoreT 2 Duo Mobile P9700 Dual-Core Processor @ 2.80GHz 1066FSB 6MB L2 Cache -GeForce GT130M -4gb ddr3 pc3-8500 its worked well thus far, though I only use it as a second screen (connected via synergy) and a travel rig. the only "complaint" I have is all of the laptop functions arent separate buttons (eg. volume, wlan on/off toggle , brightness are all fn+F keys) so if I ever put win7 on it, I might run into issues. oh and it came with a "free travel case" but the case is too small for the notebook lol

I just bought a brand new Alien Ware Laptop. If you are willing to make the payment in. That is the way to go.

Re: Buying a new rig, looking for opinions/suggestions please.
This post brought to you by: Newegg.com - CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra 2026 Phenom II X4 945(3.0GHz) 4GB DDR2 500GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - Desktop PCs I bought one to replace my old minion when I could no longer summon it from the twisting nether. I have no real complaints about it. My only 'gripe' is the door on the front blocks the USB and headphone ports, requiring me to leave it open and ugly for raiding. It's a very solid machine and runs W7 well. I really enjoy the internal case design (toolless drive bays, plenty of airflow space).

Re: Buying a new rig, looking for opinions/suggestions please.
The Rig that I am on, and that I play WoW with, I bought from Cyberpower, about 3 years ago. They have great service all around. I even called with questions about the custom rig I made, and The guy on the other end and went through it with me, and told me what I could upgrade/downgrade to get the best performance for my money. My main advise if you are dealing with them though is to watch out if you have to do A full system restore. They overclock it for you in the shop (if you ask) but If you do a full system restore, you are gona loose all that. I don't know how tech savvy you are, but It was a pain to make my CPU the way it was when they sent it to me. Also, Keep your emails they send you, FOR A LONG TIME. They are willing to help you with any questions you have, but you have to remember your order number, and your customer number, They are Good People. Now The only thing left to do on this rig is get two new graphics cards, and Upgrade to Vista, (which I am dreading) but I want to use all 8 gigs of ram that I have, as well as get the most out of My duel channel SLI... |

Re: Buying a new rig, looking for opinions/suggestions please.
One thing to note is that triple channel > dual with the i7 setup. If you get more ram (and you should if you get this setup) get the same amount/speed and preferably the exact same ram for only the third slot. I honestly don't understand why they put 4 memory slots on most of th i7 boards when it's been long known they are optimized with 3. Intel Core i7 Memory Analysis – Can Dual Channel Cut it? Re: Buying a new rig, looking for opinions/suggestions please.
You could go one of two routes, each one has its pros and cons. Without knowing your current settup anyway: 1 : Upgrade your exsisting PC's case with new internals..Even if you're not a do-it-yourselfer, it's easy. It could save you money, or at least let you get better componets. Motherboard, Cpu, Ram, and a video card would be what to upgrade.. MAYBE your powersupply if it's not more than 600ish Watts. You could essentially get a faster CPU, better video card, or two even. and double the ram even than a prebuild tower. 2: Buy the pre built and upgrade/downgrade to suit your needs. With that build list, there are a few things I would change. 1: More and faster ram. It's a DDR3 Motherboard, find out the highest MHz ram it supports and aim for at least 8Gb ram. With Windows 7, and the iCore, you will notice a difference. Which leads to .... 2: go AMD. Maybe. You might be able to get a faster clock speed for less than the iCore Cpu's. That would also change the motherboard, but, it might yield better performace for the price. You might be able to call/email them and tweak the brands like Nvidia-->ATI, or Intel--->AMD to match whatever your budget. With that said, They are great people to deal with.. I myself have not delt with them personally, but have numerous friends that have. They never said one bad thing about them
