City may name road after ACDC

THEY have been revered for their rock anthem Highway to Hell, but legendary band AC/DC could soon lay claim to their own Melbourne lane.

Melbourne City Council is considering renaming Corporation Lane, a narrow alley which runs off Flinders Lane, AC/DC Lane as a tribute to the band.

Council city services committee chairwoman Kimberly Kitching said the lane was close to Swanson Street where the band filmed its legendary film clip to It's a Long Way to the Top.

"They are probably the most successful Australian band ever and they really do have a connection to Melbourne," she said.

"I don't think there would be many who wouldn't know that film clip where they are playing on the back of a flatbed truck along Swanson Street."

She said it all started because Melbourne's rock and roll community was looking for a fitting tribute to the band.

"The area around the lane is full of rock and roll bars and I think it would be a fitting place for the tribute," she added.

i wonder how many tourist are going to get beat up on that road after they think it's cool to go to all the bars there.

Why would they name a road after a celebrity/music band? It isn't like they saved a city from destruction or put millions towards cancer research or anything. If you're going to name a road after a singer, name one after someone like Bono from U2 - the amount he does for the community is amazing.

Aye, why should THAT particular crap band get some recognition...heehee, I know there's lots of people that like AC/DC out there, but I prefer to listen to people that know how to sing...

gimme gimme!

and bono isn't from australia. they chose ac/dc because they brought some form of recognition and fame to the city. plus there have been streets named after worse things than this.
