Hard Drive Tribulations Stage 2

I apologize for creating a second thread, I couldnt figure out how to edit my first one...

For those of you keeping track, My desktop is completely on the fritz.
First hard drive is currently in use as a paperweight due to corrupt windows files. I have purchased a NEW 320GB SATA HardDrive (Thank You Black Friday sales!) However I cannot get Windows XP to recognize it. BIOS sees it fine. Heres the kicker, on a whim I tried to install Windows 98 onto the unseen Hard Drive, and it WORKED... But while trying to upgrade to XP I get the same error that there is no drive... Im fried, Im tired, Im 2 minutes from setting a small fire...

So, SATA hard Drive, unrecognized by XP but fully installed Windows 98?
HELP?!?!

Re: Hard Drive Tribulations Stage 2

it might not be a software related, could be random hard disc failure, which means the disc inside might be physically corrupt, best bets friend, hope you bought a warranty lol

Re: Hard Drive Tribulations Stage 2

Most probably be the chipset on your motherboard as XP only recognises some chipsets by default.

If this is the case you need to insert the floppy disk that came with your motherboard when installing XP and watch the bottom of the screen when it asks to to press a key, think its either F2 or F6, to install the chipset drivers.
