new laptop

hi all, ive recently ordered a new sony vaio FZ series laptop, and while i didnt buy it to play WoW on, im wondering if it is good enough to handle it. it has a Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2GHz), 2 GB ram, and a NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT graphics card.

Erm...hell yes? If you have a choice, try to get XP instead of the Vista crap.

Agreed .... Vista is terrible. Your laptop should do wonders with Wow.

That said, Vista is due it's first big service pack, like.. nowish. You won't be able to max settings out on a laptop like that but it should be faily good looking with high framerates.

While it's true that Vista SP1 should be due anytime now, Windows XP SP3 is also out before too long. I'd stick with XP... There really isn't a good reason for most people to go to Vista at the moment. And if one of your arguments is "its so pretty" then visit stardock.com or google litestep. There are plenty of ways to make windows "pretty".

thing is most large retailers now have to sell with Vista pre loaded. I had to get my dad a laptop over the holidays and every large hcain retailer i went to had no machines with XP on - and I was told that this was enforced on them.

Vista SP1 release candidate is now up for DL on the MS Update website afiak

yeah i was forced to get vista, sony wouldnt let me change to XP

Bleh, forget Windows. Go with Ubuntu. Sure, you can't run WoW natively, but download and install Wine and it'll run just as well if not better than Vista.

<Insert Linux fanboy remark>

I believe that Dell is now offering the option for XP at least over......Vista. Sorry had to choke down the bile that rose up.

Personally, if the retailer will not install xp instead of Vista, I would tell them sorry then..no sale. Period. Vista is pure garbage and will be for the first two or three years..just like every other window platform out there.

*still thinks 98SE was the best so far....*
