Edit: Akasha, I just now saw that you deleted part of the thread I quoted. Feel free to delete my post or the quote if you see fit.
No that's fine. I just deleted the replies as the original poster probably wouldn't have read past a lot of those replies to see my one. I also do agree a bit with what neej said - being jumped all over isn't the best thing to happen to someone. Yes, he should have read the very obviously named sticky... but he didn't. Flaming is against the forum rules, so after the first person replied linking the thread, other's should have just left it alone. I'd prefer absolutely no replies than the type to make someone feel unwelcome.

That said, after the recently yelling and kicking from me... I can also understand that response.

I do agree that lately it seems like there are more "use the search.../end post" replies. Searching can help, but I always think back to my early days of WoW (and finding wowmb) and remember how much information overload there was. I read pages and pages on what "drain tanking" was and how to do it correctly but it took somebody responding to my post (and actually playing the game) for it to sink in.
A lot of the "use search and /close" responses... which I assume you are talking about mine there, is to the constantly repeated posts. Same goes to the ones where I know there is already an existing thread.

As I've mentioned, the search feature has been tweaked a lot over the past couple of weeks. It does work if people use it.

Dimx - You are also very much correct!

You may think that the Warlock's Den is becoming rude... personally I think it's out of spoons. After FIVE YEARS of the same threads, some people, myself included, are sick to the teeth of seeing them.
Thanks for your answer. In no way I was attacking you in person, or the amazing work you have accomplished with your board, and I think you know that.

Every internet topic evolves into a gazillion of information bits after some years, sometimes people misunderstand that for some alleged identity, brag with it, and ridicule people who kept doing better things. Is that necessary?

I'd rather live with 25 "rate my buld" threads but with a single "I WILL REROLL IF THEY ARE REALLY DOING IT" thread every day of my life. I mean that. Information > opinion. And opinion is only relevant if it includes information.

The point is not to help once. The point is to help over and over again. It takes 5 seconds for me to link some wowwiki entry on spell hit. That player will recognize wowwiki after that and probably won't ask as soon again. One soul saved.

Or like my dear Undead class teachers said:

Patience! Discipline!

One question though:

Your agreement with Dimx implies that you accept posts of the likeliness of "2.4 suxx"? Call me surprised...

Re: Good Bye

That's not the part of his post I was agreeing with.

Yes it takes 5 seconds to link. Now time that 5 seconds by 10 posts a day, 7 days a week. How soon would you get sick of linking the same thing? How frustrating would it be to link that same thing over and over and over again, when the people asking could have read one of the other 100 posts on the same subject.

Just because one person is happy to see 25 rate me threads a day, doesn't mean everyone is happy to see them.

Mmh, I don't think I explained what really bothered me:

I do not care about nerfs. I would play a Warlock without SL and Deathcoil like in the old days if I have to. I don't even care about WoW.

What I see is:

Threads that have content like "2.4 sux." - and nothing else. Posts like this are about to be deleted instantly in my opinion. Problem is that people AGREE and post more on that.

Threads that go over the top like the few "OMG I NEEZ NEW GEAR WITH LT NERF!!!111". Total garbage and people kept replying to it -> affirming that stupidity.

Bad spelling. No punctuation.

Always pointing people to "USE SEARCH, HAS BEEN SAID BEFORE". Seriously, the search doesn't help a lot with many problems (I tried, and I a no newbie) and the game is changing all the time. So if there is some general thread, no problem to point people there by providing a link. But no need to insult them. Arrogance <> wisdom.

The Den just became a rude place.

Imagine your favorite pub. People were friendly, new people were greeted warmly and if they said something uneducated no one attacks them. That was the Den I was enjoying.

Today it's like some barely 21 year old college frat invaded your old cozy pub and they are shouting at each other, laughing about penis jokes, bragging, and telling other people to not ask stupid questions.

That's not my pub anymore.
this tells me YOU take it too seriously. its an online forum. let people post whatever they want, and if you dont like it, then dont bother. i read and learn, and if i dont know i search. so you barely see me here. some people are not like that. I see those useless threads also, but EVERYWHERE you go, you will have that. seems that it just got to you. so good luck with your endeavors.

Re: Good Bye

I still fail to see the need of getting upset for the "which talent build" or "rate my equip" threads. Can't we just choose to not read the thread, not reply to the thread or ignore it. So a please rate my XXX thread pops up, no one responds and it quickly falls off the page because of new posts that people are actuallty responding to. What's the big deal?

It's kinda like me going to college, raising my hand to ask a question and having the prof jump all over me saying, "please use the internet or encylopedia before wasting my time with these stupid questions noob".

Yes i know i can find the answers by looking elsewhere, but thats why im in class.....to ask questions of someone who has the knowledge and can answer that question in a quick polite manner that is easy to understand.

That's a minute per day, that's no time compared to what I do in-game, I can do that "N00B-Portal" Co-Mod thing if you don't like it...

Seriously, I don't see a problem to repeat it. I help a lot of people in my guild providing the same information hundreds of times. Kara pre-quest. How resilience works. Spell hit cap. I am only mildly annoyed if it is information from the official web sites though and people want me to paraphrase them.
But I do not require people to be as sick as I am and dig into wow-freak pages 24/7. They can just ask me. I enjoy this and staying at forums not to brag with my wisdom but often to help people out.

To assume that someone does exhaustive research before doing something is indeed acceptable, but do we all really do it in all cases before we ask something?

Anyway, I feel much more offended by derailing whining threads how Blizzard allegedly deliberately wants to destroy all Warlocks. And that is just my opinion indeed. I wonder how one could actually prefer that over people kindly asking for help with some ridiculously complex game.

After seeing your call for guides:

For me it feels that a Wiki would be much better for what you want to achieve. I do not see boards as a knowledge base but a casual, friendly, and yes: ever-repeating chat place.

Re: Good Bye

Ya know, this was a simply put "Good-bye" post and while I am saddened to see anyone leave, especially someone helpful and useful, I am appalled at the previous 3 pages in this thread and no one really reconizing the fact Akasha is a new mom with new real life priorities and duties.

So what guys/gals, the boards slipped a little, but we didn't need 3 pages of why. The simple fact is she is back and working on getting it back to good. If you can't hang tight till the boards are back to the "norm" then quietly move-along. Adding this much more stress to the situation will do nothing good. I suggest closing the thread and allowing Neej to have a great farewell.

Re: Good Bye

Reading this post has prompted some guilt on my side too.
I have also been (who can honestly say was not one?) a 'rate my build/equip/spell rotation/you name it' guy. And in some cases I have found replies (many cases, actually) and in others I have seen no replies.
Have not started flame wars (nobody MUST help on requests) but if the moderator/top poster/old guard fell like giving me pointers, well.... that's very welcome.
Akasha, happy to hear search has been fixed significantly - it was not your fault in the first place and it would have not been an issue anyway - but pls do not remove the 'rate my xxx' posts out: personally I think everybody who reads them ends up with a little bit of knowledge than the before.
And you guys who cannot stand these type of posts... why can't you just skip them?

My two cents here are in favour of neej - I have always loved the way he put himself across and more than often hiss replies included actual information (quoting you and Gordon Gekko), are clearly written with as little jargon as possible and in a language which most can call english (and not l33t).

Will miss you - hope you'll change your mind and we will do our best to make this the website of your choice whenever you want to look at the evil world of locks again.

BTW, what do you think about my equip? How about my sepll damage :-)

Akasha, on the other hand - I fully understand your frustration. It sucks to put effort into thing and see people just focussing on the minor shortcomings... but I seriously think you made something impressive here. keep up the good work (and if i may reiterate pls share the burden of your mod job with a trusted guy - like c-pimp or other). Pls keep this community as it is: sometimes orderly, sometimes funny, often informative and occasionally whining.

ciaociao

I would say it's more like asking the professor a question that has been covered in previous homework. Spoonfeeding and teaching are not the same thing (on a good day at least). Someone interested in learning does better when they are at least a bit proactive in obtaining knowledge.
