Dreaded Dial-up, Can I use it?
We will be without road runner (high speed cable) for a week or so and want to know if any locks out there play on dial-up? I can get Dial-up and use it until they have my lines replaced but am I wasting my time and $10.00 bucks? Any thoughts fellow locks?

Re: Dreaded Dial-up
I used to play on dialup, back when I first started playing the game.. it was many things, painful and interesting being two of them. Try bumming at a friend's house imo ;)

Re: Dreaded Dial-up
I currently am playing on dial-up and it works, but it aint pretty. I've actually been on it from the beginning, and I'm just about to ding 70. The only real trouble I've had with it is doing large raid-group type stuff and hanging out in Org. Doing stuff in The Burning Crusade is a bit more laggy than in the original content but doesn't really matter for anything non-grouped. Also, make sure that you have a good dial-up modem. My next door neighbor has also tried running WoW on dial-up, but on an older modem, and he lags out on logging in. As to whether or not it would be worth it, I would just do one of the free trial things that most dial-up companies do these days and see if it works.
Edit: And I just saw that you're a 70 that's probably doing raids and such, so I would say stay away from the dial-up. Last edited by Lodeon; May 01, 2008 at 07:20 PM. |

Well Lodeon it was not that bad but like you said was not pretty either. I decided to play with my alts and not mess with either of my 70's. I only got dropped once in three hours but had a latency around 1000 all the time. I could not go into any major city either it booted me right away every time I tried. I died a couple of times from lag but all and all it was ok, at least I got to play. One thing for sure it's going to be a long week. Thanks to Cynic and Lodeon for yours thoughts and thanks for taking the time! |

Re: Dreaded Dial-up
I don;t know man, Dial-up is really not a issues as long as you are not planning on going to a 25+ man raid or higher or AV, you should be more then fine
I get 300ms or so jsut chilling in IF and playing WSG decent amount of time, but there is always other factors lol |
