Is it Suckista? (Vista)

Ok, so I have my new laptop... luuuuurve it! But I'm having some issues. When I type on it, it seems to drop letters randomly. It's frustrating beyond imagination and I need to figure out why before to just start banging my forehead into the keyboard.

For example, below is typing I haven't gone back and fixed:
This is a test paragraph o show how sometimes it just randomly drops letters here and there whenI am typing. Oh see! It misd a space ba then, and again. It's so annoyigwhen I have t ocontinually go back and fix spelling mistakes when they'r enot my mistakes! ARRGG!
See, now how bad is that? Hubby suggested it might be because I type too 'lightly', but I'm pretty firm and it still does it. Then he said it might be that the keyboard is smaller than normal, but I have no problem hitting the right keys, so I don't think it's that either. The only other thought is that it's Vista, as that's what is installed on the laptop...

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Is it Suckista? (Vista)

is your laptop ACER?

it looks like you have the same problem as i had with my acer aspire.

There may be a broken motherboard in your laptop or just
wrong drivers for the keyboard.

Theres 2 options:

1. check your keyboard drivers and reinstall them

OR

2. call to the manufacturer, complain and send the laptop to them for repair

If you send your laptop to the manufacturer be firm with the people on the phone.
i had to battle with ACER bout 6 months just to end up with new motherboard and broken RAM.
(came back 2 times with a note that theres nothing wrong with the computer)

EDIT: and this is all only IF your sure that its not just the new keyboard that your not familiar with

good luck!

My gut tells me that your keyboard is bad or its connector is loose. I suggest taking it back to wherever you bought it and getting the keyboard replaced. A competent technician can make that repair in about 10 minutes.

This is all assuming you've completely ruled out that it's YOU just taking time to get used to a new keyboard size/layout/responsiveness

I experienced this same thing on XP with wireless MS KB and Mouse

It turned out to be a driver issue.

Nope, Asus. It's the latest version just released (In Aust, not sure about everywhere else) this past Monday - the 14th. We actually got it two days before it was meant to be on sale hehe.

Don't think it's that as hubbies laptop has had the same problems.

Unfortunately because it's so new, there's only the one set. Over time there will be more released, but at the moment that's it.

Maybe try hooking up an external keyboard to it. Any USB (or PS2 if you have the connector for it) should work fine.

Re: Is it Suckista? (Vista)

To find out if it is Vista, or some software that may be running, just plug in an external USB keyboard and see if you have the same problem.

I'm leaning more to a physical problem with the keyboard myself, as usually any software issue that could be causing this, the keypress should still be buffered and while it may take a few extra seconds to come up on the screen, everything you type should still be there.

But, but, that takes away from the portability of it being a laptop...

Plus I like the 'feeling' of the laptop keyboard, and the quietness hehe.

yes but the point isnt to use that as a permanent substitute, just to figure out what exactly the problem is.

Re: Is it Suckista? (Vista)

I've been using Vista for some time now, and it out performs XP. My first thought is that it isn't Vista, but rather your laptop. Might be something with the keyboard, or perhaps the ribbon/cable that connects the keyboard to the main board is loose or faulty.

I would visit your laptop manufacturers website and see if anyone else is having the issue, if there is a fix for it, and if not then just call customer service. Your machine should have a warranty, It would be a waste not to use it. The main thing is to ensure your system is optimal when Wrath comes out. You in particular will be very busy with this website and the game I imagine.
