Re: Is it Suckista? (Vista)

Unfortunately because we only bought it a month ago, and the warranty was organised through Harvey Norman (where we bought it) we have to go through them...

Wow Akasha I would have thought that the manufacturers warranty would trump all other warranties. Well in any case I wish you the very best of luck for a positive outcome.

Just a little off topic but Akasha I just had a look see at Harvey Norman's web site and I have one question..........Are all retailers and ads so happy like that one in Aussie land? I mean from the fonts, photos, color's, and layout it is all about smiles and lollipops. Don't get me wrong it put a smile on face (could not help it).

Re: Is it Suckista? (Vista)

What I'm happy to see with this thread is that nobody is just going all out Vista Bashing. I've been using Vista for a few months now, and I still get people saying "I'm sorry" or "Ouch, too bad" when I tell them I use it. It's actually been a far superior experience for me than XP has ever been. It's faster, more user friendly (once I turned the UAC off) and it looks nicer too.

I guess I bring this up for three reasons, 1, the title of the thread being Suckista. 2, the fact that nobody has really been bashing Vista which surprized me. And 3, A good friend of mine, and avid Vista basher recently got a new computer with Vista on it... and he likes it now.

Lmao. Nah, but if Microsoft wishes to send me a check for the free advertising I've been throwing their way, I wont mind.

Re: Is it Suckista? (Vista)

Hi Akasha,

I'm an IT guy and there's a couple of things that stand out from what you've described.

First, and sadly, this is going to take some time to get sorted out. Prepare to be without that laptop for 4 to 6 weeks.

Second, a hard drive -- even one about to die -- will not cause your keyboard to randomly drop characters. Ain't no way. Again, sadly, they may be able to fix the hard drive issue but when you get it back you'll likely have the same keyboard problem.

The gentleman who suggested you plug an external keyboard into it for testing purposes hit the nail on the head. Doing this will help you trouble-shoot where the problem is: Is there an issue with the keyboard or does it lie elsewhere, Windows or the CPU perhaps? This is just for trouble-shooting and really is essential in determining where to look to fix the problem.

How certain are you the current problem is the hard drive? Do you see a BIOS screen when you boot the PC? Does anything appear on the screen at all? If you're not seeing anythig then the problem is not the hard drive but rather something else, and given what you've already written, I'll make an educated guess at a CPU or motherboard problem. If that's the case then you're set. The factory will fix both problems when you send it in.

In any case, it sure is a pain in the butt to get these problems fixed. Good luck!

The major problems with Vista when it was released was poor driver support (not vista's fault) and people were buying "vista ready" crap that was just barely good enough for XP. These are the same problems that plagued XP until SP1. If you purchase a new Vista computer today it will probably be on modern hardware with proper driver support. I've been using it since it came out mainly for the media center stuff and it has been completely problem free.

I completely agree. I upgraded to Vista from the get go because I have a tablet PC and the Vista capabilities are far superior to XP Tablet version I had. And well, now I swear by Vista. Though at work we all have XP still and I find myself doing/looking to do stuff how I do it in Vista on my own PC. Other than the UAC stuff (which can and should be disabled imo), Vista has been a pleasure.

Wow, my initial post said almost the exact same thing (regarding the drivers and the poor excuse for "vista ready" barely meeting minimum requirements all not being vista's fault) but I took it out because I didn't think it really related to my initial post. I just find it funny/cool that someone else said the exact same thing. I personally think that it sucks that Vista has taken the heat for all those things. It's been beaten down far worse than the other OS's have been when they were first released and IMO has proven to be a superior OS in many ways.
