Why are people so weak

Dunno if the title is right for the topic but I feel the need to QQ.

My guild is disbanding :(

After 1 year of playing together, after one full year of epic adventures it has come to an end. We were a casual guild, raiding 2-3 times a week and our main focus was to be a friendly group of people who spend their time in WoW just to relax.

Now a big goup of people started to dream about "hardcore" raiding. We were not able to do this. Most of us have a job, a family, I have an adorable girlfriend and WoW was just a way forget about the daily problems.

Yes indeed, we lack progress, cleared Karazhan, Za and downed Hydros and Lurker in SSC but all of us said that this is ok... until now.

We lost 15 core people in 2 days and all our efort was is now nothing. I remember the time when I was farming Primal Water for my FSW set, farmed hundreds of badges for the new badge gear, translated boss tactics and gear guides to our guild... and now... it has just become a big pile of...

Sorry I am filling up the forum with this but I just had to QQ.

/sigh

Forum is here for these reasons too. So no need to appologise.

I do hear you on the 'want to progress' issue though. I was part of a great guild that was the same as yours - friendly, easy going, family orientate guild. I even remember talking to the guild leader before I joined and being told repeatedly that they are not about being the leader of the end game race, are not interested in all the epics and are more for people, like you and me, that have lives and use WoW as a relaxtion tool.

Then somewhere along the road they started mass recruiting, aiming for raids 5 times a week etc. AND the worst part, they couldn't understand why the core people of the guild, the ones that had been a part of them for a while, were upset. All of a sudden, our feelings didn't matter and we were the 'problem' members.

Feel free to vent away, I'm sure you'll find many a member here who has been through the same problem. /comfort

Re: Why are people so weak

I know exactly how you feel Aghast. I've gone through this so many times that I've thought about just not joining guilds anymore. My first guild was too small to raid, but many members wanted to. As I had risen to GM at that point, the only solution I could come up with was mass recruit, which failed miserably since we were a small guild, or merge with another, which only half the guild supported. In the end half merged, half stayed behind in an even smaller guild that didn't go on to do much of anything.

My second - third guilds all lasted pretty well, raiding ZG/AQ20 (Pre burning crusades) and then Kara, before breaking apart. The last guild hit up SSC, Mag, Gruul, TK, Hyjal, and even started on BT before it fell apart. Since then, I switched to Horde as a Co-Worker of mine runs his own guild that hasn't fallen apart once in the past 3 years I've known him.

It seems to be the nature of a guild to thrive then die out over time.

The allure of epics is just to great for some people. It's easy to get sucked into the vortex of hardcore raiding. I did it myself for a while, and it put a huge strain on my relationship, spending almost all night in raids six nights a week.

I had to 'retire' if you will, and look for something that better suits me. Maybe see if you can pick up the remnants of your guild, and find some new like minded members to rebuild.

Re: Why are people so weak

Unfortunately your problem is not that unique in a game such as this. Many people who begin as "casual" slowly over time become consumed with having all purple's, and they don't care how that affects others. I am in my 5th guild now in about a year and half of playing WoW. I had a dream of starting my own guild because I know for a fact that I would never be that GL that wants to raid 7 nights a week. So, now I have my own guild, we are really small, only run maybe 1 or 2 instances a week, and the furthest we will ever get before Wrath of the Lich King comes out is Kara, if even that. Almost all of us know each other in real life which makes it easier.

I can understand how you feel. I have children, work full time, and am entering my senior year of college (yes I screwed around in the past but need to finish my degree at this old age of 35). I know I will never have the time to raid like some hardcore players do. I am fine with that.

If I was you, I would consider starting your own guild and recruiting members that feel as you do about the game. That way, if they too end up becoming obsessed with epics, you can boot them and move on. This is after all just a game, but it seems that a lot of people turn it into a lifestyle and a job.

Anyway, good luck with whatever happens next.

Re: Why are people so weak

I sympathize, my first guild was amazing, they ran heroics and we were all really close, then i finally hit 70 and people wereslowly switching to a raiding guild, we all went there. i kinda went straight from leveling to kara and gruuls. bought a bunch of AH blues, easily had decent gear and i was amazed that people were still in greens. then i got gkicked because i had to deal with major RL issues during a pug and the tank reported on me to my GL. I was not living up to the standards of the guild. i mean i think it was for afking, i'm not really sure, cause all the mail said was you misbehaved in slabs. now hardly talk to those guys anymore. but i'm in a raiding guild that has had some drama, but luckily i was absent for it, so i have the opinion that if it happened while i was gone, i really don't care as long as the guild is still together

Re: Why are people so weak

Oddly, my guild is going through almost the same thing right now.

My guild, Alliance-Forsaken Gods of Azuremyst, had slowly started becoming more and more hardcore. I've been in this guild for about a year and a half, and I remember back when the GM didn't even have a 70. However, in the last 4 months we've gone through a failed merge and mass recruiting, and all of a sudden our fearless leader pops on after about a week off and announces that we are no longer a raiding guild.

"Xxxxxxxxx has left the guild" flooded my chat.

point in case, our regular player's loyalty (some who've been in the guild for nearly a year) only went as far as the next scheduled 10-25 man and the next drop.

Good news though, me and the 5-6 other casual players/good friends are now in one of the most epic 7 account guilds in game :P

Related to this topic and my previous post, here is a link as to what happened in the last guild I was in:

Guild Leader Quits - The Warlocks Den Forums

It is much easier to just start your own guild and do things your way. Although this is not always possible, it has worked out very well for me.

Re: Why are people so weak

I totally know what your going through. one of the guilds i started in was The Alternate Way, was basiclly a guild designed to help you raise alts, so you can get them back into your original guild, and go raiding again. Well when most of us hit 60, we all applied to raiding guilds, but were all still pretty close. It's kind of hard to have a guild that you know people are joining at a low level just to leave. we were that small family guild, as odd as it sounds. I moved on to Cold Blackhand of Death on the Aggy server, I'd say it was in the top 5 raiding guilds on our server for ally side. THEN BC came out, and basiclly changed the face of WoW, and a lot of guilds. Some people level'd faster than others, creating cliques that really shouldn't have formed. the Well I'm 70 now and your only 65 so i'm not going to help you mentality. That guild closed it's doors. Most of us formed our own guild Neferaious Order, the original leadership there was nuts, but we were going, and knocking the door down to karazhan. Once it was on farm, the guild fell apart for a bit, Sorta splintered, and most of us went to THC. I left for a few months after being in THC, i was burned out from wow. then my account got hacked, and someone transfered me to some bad server, thankfully, I was able to get back to Aggy, By this time NO's leadership was solid and strong, and were working on Gruul's TK, SSC. I once again had to take a small break due to the death of my husband, and like 2 weeks later NO falls apart. I think i'm bad luck for guilds.

Re: Why are people so weak

I think we have all felt your pain at one time or another. My first guild was a casual leveling guild, just hanging out questing together and having a all around good time. With the big push for guildes and even pugs to be epic it is making it harder and harder to just play the game. Since then, I have made the bounce from guild to guild trying to find a more laid back guild. (with no luck so far). I have seen peope freak out on new people in kara for probably the same stupid mistake they made when they first started. For some reason I have found WoW in general has taken a downward trend. With people freaking out in BG's and Pug's, ninja needing on gear they don't even need. I play on 2 servers and it is the same on both. Question is : what happen to WoW?
