Re: Media request ... from a Warlock!
There is a guy on my guild who is a fighter pilot stationed in Europe. Thatīs all i know about him but he does raid and play a lot.
Also have (and ive just learned this) a couple, that meet in wow, got married, she left her family on the west coast and went to live with her husband. Also, her 2 cousins now play wow with us just because of her (they used to play Everquest). I am curious on where this is going, tbh. Also maybe Blizzard will understand the benefits of allowing for cross continent server transfers!!! Last edited by Malboro; October 07, 2008 at 10:57 AM.. |

Re: Media request ... from a Warlock!
Hey Malboro, thanks for sharing that. There must be something peculiar to WoW in this, I suspect, given it's size, its reach, market share and how (unlike some other MMOs) it has spread outside the ... erm ... 'geeky' (^^) end of the gaming spectrum to take in youngsters, more mature folks, non-gamers etc.
Do you think too much has been made of the dark side of gaming (addictions, 'no-life' etc) as opposed to these potentially more positive aspects? I have a brother in Australia, we sometimes Skype, but I can't get him to game :( So I don't have any real experience of this myself, except for some friends here in England who live in different parts of the country to me (not close family though). Thanks to everyone who has replied so far: waiting on my editor now to confirm where he wants me to take this. |

Hey Oppy, I'm still following this and I understand "Sellanna" got in touch with you too.

More likely, there weren't too many RPers playing wow in the first place, and players joined after enjoying the RTS warcraft games. Anyway, my ramble is working on the assumption that RP means geeky. I know people that don't RP consider RP a geeky MO. Yet most people I know who consider themselves geeks celebrate it and play up to it. And yet if a non geek called them a geek it would be a derogatory term... sound familiar? Quote:
It is a very addictive time consuming game and it was designed that way, however the personal stuff, the true MMO element is what keeps a lot of people playing and connecting with different people from all over the world. As harsh as it sounds, for every player that dies of lack of sleep and malnutrition there are thousands more that are making new friends, reaching out and enjoying a level of interaction that their location wouldn't afford them. It may be negative, but more people die from pursuing "regular" social activities. |

Re: Media request ... from a Warlock!
Just wanted to let you know that WoW has been a terrific way for me to keep in touch with friends. Oddly enough I ran into my ex-husband from 13 years ago on my server and now we game every night and have a great time...he's in Texas and I'm in Virginia. I invited him into our guild and now everyone has terrific fun and our guild King and Queen are married and their oldest son plays with all of us. I love the fact that I finally got my daughter addicted...while she, sadly, chose not to be a warlock and went with a foofy BE Hunter, she is having an awesome time and we know that when our kids are on, Guild chat goes into kid protection mode and when they're not...it's all guildies for themselves.
![]() I hear may people say about how gaming is ruining our culture but I disagree wholeheartedly. I stay in touch with friends and family through WoW and Vent and have never been as up to date with them in my life. A cell phone just doesn't cut it when you can do group bg's together! Good luck with your article!! I think it will be fabulous when it comes out! |
