Windows XP - i cant see my screen :S
Tried to find a proper place to post it but couldnt, admin plz move it if you know a better place ^^ So, after my shoutbox rant on my guilds webpage about peoples fail computer etc. My computer failed... I opened it like i always do, it auto opened MSN and i went to get some water, came back and opened WoW. Its been on for about 5 minutes tops. Wow opens and then everything turns black, but the drake flying in the background at the login screen freezes in 1 position and then turns pink/red/blue/green etc. I though, what the hell... Turned off the computer via the reset button. Then at the startup process, i see like small waves over the screen and at certain points in the startup process i see green squares all over the screen. I can see everything thats going on, when it gets to windows loading screen it passes it as normal and the sound over the speakers let me know that ive now entered Windows. (you know, the windows welcome sound thingey) But i cant see anything, screen just goes black :S I run XP btw I can however open it in safemode!!. Heres what i tried: Stop taking drugs. Cut power and let it cool off over night. Check if all cables are properly plugged into the computer. Beg it Threaten it. |

Re: XP - Cant see my screen :S
Hi Smiths, Is it only with wow or also with other programs? If its only with wow: 1. Try the repair thingy. 2. Reinstall WoW (remember, you only have to install Wrath of the Lich King...) If it's with other programs as well and its not the cables, it's either the driver or the card itself. You could try the following things: 1. Replace the cables 2. Check if your graphics card drivers are up to date. 3. Replace your graphics card. Hope you find the problem!

Re: XP - Cant see my screen :S
Your graphics card has either overheated or is about to die. Those waves and coloured squares are artifacts. I'd say it's not overheating since you mentioned that you left your PC turned off overnight. As Drlatex says check that you're running the latest version of drivers, the card itself is seated correctly in the PCIe (or AGP) port, all the cables are securely plugged into the card and that your PSU is still delivering enough power to the card. If you've done all that and it's still showing artifacts then start looking for the warranty, or for a new card

Graphics drivers probably corrupt, try to update in safemode if possible. DL the drivers to a key, not a good idea to startup in safemode with networking, AV won't be running. |

1) Update or Reroll Drivers 2) Clean out your computers inside. 3) Your card is dying. |

that sounds more to me like a hardware failure with your video card rather than a driver thing, but its of course worth a shot to update the drivers first. everything looks fine though when youre in safe mode? |

Re: Windows XP - i cant see my screen :S
It's most likely a hardware failure with your video (biggest clue is the display defect while booting). If the driver update in safemode doesn't fix it, I suggest taking your pc to the nearest computer store to have the video card tried on another machine. From there you'll see if the card is broken or not. |
