A Stargate Call to Arms!

(I'm passing along this message from a fellow Gatehead)

A Stargate Call to Arms:

Alright, this is gettin' posted in every single journal that I have, even the ones I barely use, just because I'm so bloody passionate about it.

Stargate SG1 just got the ax. I fear that Atlantis will follow.

Now,in the great tradition of our forefathers in saving Sci-Fi shows, we freaks, geeks and Gateheads must unite to save the thing that we love so dearly.

Hey, Trek fans did it in the sixties, and they didn't even have the internet to help unite them. This, in comparison, should be a cinch.

Alright boys and girls, are you listening? Have I got your UNDIVIDED attention? Hmmmm?

Here's what we're gonna do.

Let's face facts people, email campaigns are all well and good, as are internet petitions, but in order to make a real impact, we gotta do this old school style.

Crackout a sheet of notebook paper and a pen and write the most heartfelt and demanding letter you've ever written telling about why you don't want SG1 to end. Now, I know this is daunting, because you're probably shy about the fact that this letter will end up in the hands of some unknown person, but take heart in thefact that it'll help the cause.

See, NBC has this policy that states that every single letter received from anywhere has to be opened, read, filed and then replied to individually.

We start writing letters to all the execs, we can gum up their mailroom for weeks.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is making a statement. That is something that they can't ignore.

Now,if you have no idea what to say in your letter, use the following which is a combination of..well, loads of show cancellation protests I've already been a part of.

To whom it may concern (or if you feel like being polite, write the person's name to whom you've addressed the letter...and if you don't feel like being nice at all, an expletive would be ok too);

It has come to my attention that in your company's infinate wisdom, you have decided to cancel 'Stargate : SG1'. This is by far, the most dunderheaded decision your network has made to date.

Not only does 'Stargate : SG1' have a MASSIVE fanbase (have you people seenthe page it has on fanfiction.net? Guys, seriously, get a clue), but if handled correctly, the property could prove to be a goldmine. You have neglected promoting it over the past year or so, so really the only people at fault for it's low ratings are yourselves.

Now if you were to promote, say the eleventh season like crazy before it came out, then the ratings would shoot up and the advertisers would be clamoring for a piece. Let's face it, statistics show that the people who watch sci-fi like Stargate are among the most attractive demographic available. Well educated, affluent and loyal (the fact we've stuck by the show for ten seasons thus far as well as a spin-off should prove this point beyond a shadow of a doubt).

In case you can't tell, I'm trying to appeal to your greed. I hope it's working.

Now don't try and tell me that 'Stargate' has failed to develop the broad appeal necessary to keep it on your schedule. That's what they said aout 'Star Trek' and we all know what happened there.

As I make this appeal, at least a few hundred more letters are arriving at your offices making the same plea. I beg of you, do not ignore this outcry from the fans, for if you do, they may desert you.

Sincerly,
Blah blah blah your name here.

If that's too snarky/smartassed for you, make changes as you see fit.

Send your letters to the following addresses-

Bonnie Hammer, President
NBC Universal | Sci Fi Channel,
30 Rockefeller Plaza,
New York, NY, 10112

Mark Stern, Executive VP Original Programming
NBC Universal | Sci Fi Channel,
30 Rockefeller Plaza,
New York, NY, 10112

David Howe, Executive VP and General Manager
NBC Universal | Sci Fi Channel,
30 Rockefeller Plaza,
New York, NY, 10112

And you can let the people behind the show know that you support them as well.

Charles Cohen, Executive Vice President
MGM Television Entertainment,
10250 Constellation Boulevard,
Los Angeles, CA, 90067

Stargate SG-1 Productions
Bridge Studios
2400 Boundary Rd, Burnaby, BC
Canada, V5M 3Z3

Remember, even if you're mostly an Atlantis fan, without SG1, there's a good chance Atlantis will end up sputtering and dying before its time because the fans of SG1 might abandon the network out of anger because of its cancellation, thus cutting Atlantis' ratings down even further.

Now then, I'm asking you ALL to repost this entry, not only in your journal, but copy and paste the WHOLE thing into an email and ship it off to EVERYONE in your addressbook. Get me? Everyone. Start gathering addys from fanclubs and things as well, if you have the time. In order to save the show, we've gotta unite. Let them hear the outcry from the fans loud and clear, and saythat we will not be ignored.

-Techie-

(Please feel free to send letters, or postcards if you want (or kleenex boxes as I've heard!) to other addresses that you find also, I'm sure they are a few more on this board somewhere

~NenyaVilyaNenya)

I have already sent out a few and plan to send more follow up emails!
VIVA LA SG1!

Re: A Stargate Call to Arms!

Woah.

But yeah, totally with you my friend. Will be a great shame to lose the greatest TV show in existence. I drew a jaffa tattoo on my forehead out of grief when I heard the news, I suggest you do the same. Also, teehee at the kleenex box thing.

Though I've never heard of a petition succeeding, you may as well sign this:
