Thread Policing Thread
Thread policing has surfaced in recent posts. How about a thread about the policing of threads? What are the acceptable forms of policing? I've thought of a few that seem to be among the tried and true forms.
1. Grammar policing 2. Thread Category policing 3. Decency/Taste policing Further, is policing a distributed, casual, and shared effort - or are there some who, whether through appointment, presumption or simply a heightened sense of concern, are specially entrusted with thread refinement? Sincerely, One Concerned Oscorqueak |

Re: Thread Policing Thread
I'm not sure either, mostly because I've never seen it (the act of policing a thread) happen; the only exceptions being when Akasha or one of the other moderators moves a thread to a proper category (Thanks for moving one of mine to the Screenshots category, by the way!).
From my short time here in the Warlock's Den, I reached the conclusion that this is perhaps the best forum I've ever been a part of, hands down. The forum members, by far and large, are mature (regardless of age), informative, have a decent sense of humor, and seem to moderate themselves without being asked to. This is, of course, my opinion and there might actually be a need for thread policing. |

Re: Thread Policing Thread
I'd ignore it...you weren't part of the intended audience. Mostly just trying to pop through a bubble - the overt thread purity fetish a select *few* contributors drag around and clothe with moralistic fervor. While I agree with you that this is an *awesome* forum I'd say the awesomeness of it has very little if anything to do with the efforts of these *few*
The potential irony of this situation is not lost on me. ;) [steps off soapbox with a grin] Osco |

Re: Thread Policing Thread
While I'm not exactly following the idea behind this thread, if it is to organise yourselves into acceptable forms of policing you can do, please stop now. While I fully support members semi-moderating by saying something when they read something they don't like, or don't agree with... there is currently only one person (me) that is and should be considered an authoritive figure (aka police).
There is a difference between someone saying, "hey, I don't think that was very nice" and "you can't do that"... how? Because only I and others I personally select have the power to say the second option. There are a lot of things that are done out of the public view, emails, sections of the forums only visible by those currently required to see it etc. It's done this way for reasons. I also know all the background of every member I had had to deal with, things said, emails returned etc. Like all/most forums, there are specific Moderators (although not anymore as they dissapeared off the face of the planet) and the Administrator (me). At the moment I read every_single_post made on this forum, and through reading all of them, I can see if comments are disrupting or contributing to further conversations. I also see every comment made by those who continually annoy and although I don't puclicly post "so and so has been banned for a week/month/permanently" does not mean it's not happening. If you want to help, report the posts... every single post has a report option. Every report gives you a text field to enter in why you think it shouldn't be there or should be edited etc. That makes my job easier. Having to worry about 10 or 15 people taking it upon themselves to decide what behaviour is or isn't acceptable is in fact more work for me, and more people I have to watch. |

Re: Thread Policing Thread
Good to know someone does. I'm not entirely lost.
![]() It maybe wasn't entirely clear to others that the initial post was written with tongue firmly planted in cheek. My fault for not planting it more visibly. :p |
