+Dmg Gear in BC - Head Slot

Not everyone reads the official Warlock forums, and who would when we have it so good here... but because of that I thought I would post this here as well for those that wouldn't see it. Full credit goes to Benign for posting it, I am simply copy+pasting a copy here because threads go missing, fall off the page and eventually die on the official forums. This info is too good to lose/miss.

All the information is from this thread, but to encourage comments on items and hopefully (please) get people adding other items they have found.

(P.S. Why don't we have people posting stuff like this on this site? *Sad panda*)


It's time to get excited about the Burning Crusade!

This compilation is geared towards the heavyweight Affliction warlock -- I'm talking about the ones who aim to take down most players with a quick succession of DoTs and maybe a luck Nightfall proc. Who needs Felguards or Shadowbolt casting times when you have Unstable Affliction and +SpDmg gear!

I was collecting a list of +damage items I had come across on the Beta, and decided to check the foums to see if anyone else had done the same. Sure enough, I found a post by Draele of Thunderhorn with a good listing of +damage gear. I've added more items, and included the Thottbot link, relevant item stats, gem/set bonuses, and drop/craft/quest info. The Thottbot links will be changed as soon as BC goes live, and I hope to keep the items updated as new loot is found.

Keep in mind that many random greens are flippin' fantastic. I found a level 66 wand that my Tier 2 Priest would have been quite happy with... "Nobility Torch of Sorcery" or something. I was on my Hunter and needed help with a PVP escort quest, so I gave it to a Shadow Priest who offered to lend a hand... I can't recall the exact stats, but it was something like +7 SpDmg, +7 Stam, +7 Int, 100 DPS.

- A "?" indicates that the information in question has not been verified.

- Will be adding a rating section explaining how +damage, crit, hit, penetration, and resilience work

- Sorted by +damage. Items with Gem slots will be ranked according to the following gems: Yellow +5, Red +9, Blue +5, Meta +12. However, a unique gem is available with slightly higher +damage in all colors.

Hmmm, am I the only one that is not all that happy with the spell damage on those gear? Stamina increase is very nice don't get me wrong, but the +spell damage kinda sux for level 70. Serously, I don't mean to brag here, but most of my gear (not all) has more spell damage than that even with slots. Yes, my gear is epic quality with T1/T2 and GM PVP epics. We have all been told that you will start to replace your gear when you start hitting level 62 or so. I am no genious here, but it looks like I might hold onto my gear until my late 60's at least. So is Blizz wanting everyone to have more stamina and keep the spell damage about what a level 60 epic has now?? Is their idea so that you can live longer in a fight, so it makes it appear you are actually 'better geared'? Don't mean to be nit picky here, but I pictured better blue gear at level 70.

I am more curious as to the epics now. I wonder if the spell damage is gonna rock?? Time will tell.

I think the general trend is to radically increase stamina while only slightly increasing spell damage and crit. If you've maximized your +damage gear at 70, it looks like it'll last well into your 70s - especially if it's enchanted.

I have a side question : why would +damage items only benefit affliction locks? Agreed, destruction locks also like +crit rating stats but destruction locks already have +crit% built in their template plus critical damage bonus is applied over (base damage+bonus damage). In short, it's good for every build. To put it differently, I tend to disagree with the simple rules such as :
affliction needs +damage, demon needs + stamina, destruction needs +crit.

^^ agreed. It usually is a misconception to think that +damage is 'only' good for affliction based locks. Destro locks love +damage just as much as any lock. And where would Destro locks be without some decent stamina? I have a feeling Destro locks are truely going to be called 'overpowered' come level 70 with all the +stam gear and high crit rating. Can hear the nerf threads now lol "I was killed by a lock in 2 shots!! ~ Nerf Locks~!"

Or another thread someone will say "I stun locked this lock for 5 minutes while his felguard beat on me, and due to his soul link and +stam gear he still killed me!!??"

full affliction (UA) builds dont get much benefit from +crit gear. first, they do not have ruin. secondly, with dots as powerful as they are now, shadowbolt spam is not as necessary. now, you dot and bolt in between--since dots dont crit, this further reduces the contribution of +crit gear to overall dps. dots get relatively huge bonuses from +damage gear too since they're all +3.5sec spells. overall, crit is not a strong stat for an affliction lock.

a destruction build on the other hand is all about direct damage. the majority of spells a destro lock uses will benefit from crit and the ruin talent will increase the value of crit gear for overall dps. also, most of the direct damage spells are 1.5-3.0sec cast times so they dont get as much benefit from +damage gear. +damage is still important, but destro locks must balance it with +crit.

Saying that destruction locks benefit from +damage gear just like affliction locks do is not the same as saying that affliction lock need to like +crit just like their destruction colleagues do. Remember the "Gold shines, therefore all that shines must be gold"?

Nobody will argue about the fact that afflication locks should value +damage equipment much more than they would +crit rating. Obviously, I do not expect an affliction lock to spam SB /immolate/searing pain as much a destro lock would, or else I would strongly advise a respec.

My only point was that destruction locks love +damage gear as any other warlock out there. Said differentlyn +Crit is not the end to all for destruction locks. Also don't forget that shortened spell casting times achieved through talents (or set bonuses) does not count against the amount of actual +damage you get from your gear. The DPS difference between a level 60 warlock with no +damage gear and one with +500 damage is huge.
