Dreadsteed Mats Gathering

Hello all,

Having recently dinged 63 I made the decision to go ahead and do the Dreadsteed quest chain. My warlock is a herbalist/alchemist so a lot of the mats I can farm for/create myself. I even already have the arcane crystals (thx to the backing of my level 70 mining main).

That leaves exactly one item that I can't provide for myself: the Black Dragonscales. I've been looking at the AH for these and have not had any luck at all.

My understanding is that these are only produced by skinning some very specific dragonkin. Is that true, or do the dragonkin also have a chance to drop them (so I can farm for them if necessary)?

I'm afraid what is going to happen is that no scales ever become available (I check twice a day) and I end up buying up an undead horse and abandoning the quest chain altogether.

The black dragonkin outside of BWL drop them and you can skin them for em.

Black Dragonscales are obtained via the Skinning profession, which given it complements leatherworking the best, may not be a skill many Warlocks have (unless taken purely to profit from). With that in mind, many will have to rely on friends, guildmates or the Auction House for this step.

If you are running a lot of Upper Blackrock Spire (UBRS) groups and have a skinner, the dragonkin here drop scales from skinning at about a 10-15 percent drop rate. Also, scales of any color can be skinned off the chromatic dragonkin, which are found in the Rend encounter and at the end boss, General Drakkisath. The dragons in Blackwing Lair can also drop scales, and occasionally you can find a stash of dragonscales in Knot Thimblejack's Cache in Dire Maul.

Outside of instance runs, the Black Dragonkin, drakes and whelps south of Blackrock mountain in Burning Steppes also drop the scales you need, a good place to try if you and a skinner want to do some farming.

I can thoroughly recommend the dreadsteed guide.

I've burned through a hell of a lot of money already buying all the mats.
It also made me regret not skilling up my herbalism and/or my skinning as I would have been able to grind out some of the mats.

I've bought everything - but the only problem for me has been the shadow elixir. I bought one. Got 5 from a buddy - who will make more when he gets some ghost mushrooms. They just dont appear on the AH very frequently.

A very long way of getitng them on the way up leveling is to kill those pesky plant things in Ungoro - there is a quest to kills about 30 of varrying types so can double use your time here as well.

They drop random herbs and you might be lucky here. I got 3 of the things doing that quest.

I actually advised my level 60 friend to run a "noob" through brd and mauradon, specifically one with herbalism, the only payment he asked was the ghost mushrooms that appear in there.

I like that Idea swampish....

Although I'm thinking of biting the bullet and getting my herbalism up to 245 for the mushrooms. (only at 190 odd at the moment).

I've never done BRD - but I'm sure I can get a group together and perhaps drop out of loot roles if I can get the mushrooms (I'd have to ensure one of the group had high enough herbalism)

I guess the lack of the items may be an indication of a possible market to go for....

oh **** my bad, it isnt brd, it's rfd when you get the herabilsm up you'll be fine, solo it easy. you can also get them in mauradon, not sure if i said that before.
