Wink Crit Vs. +Damage

I'm 40/0/21 and have crit chance of 16.36% and 539 +damage unbuffed and unpotted. My question is with aggro control and such what are your inputs with swapping out gear to add more +damage and less crit chance?

Am I going to benefit more with crit chance to gloves or spell damage to gloves? Ect.

generally speaking, crit is better for pvp and damage is better for pve. grab aggro more than once per 5 mins you're dead in raid pve.

Re: Crit Vs. +Damage

I am 0/40/21 and have recently downed the Curator in Kara.

I have 600 damage and 272 Crit bonus (Approx 25% with talents)

For a while I ran with my Succy, trying to Maxamise DPS. THis doesnt work, you just pull aggro all the time and get WTF owned. Often there isn't even enough time to hit soul shatter

Once I run with my Imp things get much better. Can nuke my *** off, dont pull aggro too often and get the stam buff. Put simply +Crit can allow some INSANE dps, however you really got to be on the ball with your threat, and watching for crit chains. I say +damage if you just want to nuke hassle free, +Crit if you trust yourself to watch aggro and have some aggro reduction

Regarding +Crit vs +damage to gloves, get +HIT to gloves. Thes stuff in kara is at least 73 elites. So you want your +Hit to be up at least 4%, preferably 8% if it doesn't gimp you too much

Re: Crit Vs. +Damage

Well you're heavy affliction which normally means damage > crit (DoTs don't crit). However since you're 21 pt in destro I assume you have both Imp SB and Ruin which can make crit extremely valuable. I think you probably need to put about equal focus on both stats, the 20% from Imp SB is pretty huge, not just for you but other locks and shadow priests as well. So you might even say that crit gear for you is more beneficial to the raid than damage (assuming there are other locks and shadow priests).

I haven't theorycreafted this though, it just seems logical to me.

Re: Crit Vs. +Damage

Yeah, the +20 damage is awesome if you have more that one shadow damage source. Problem is you generally dont. And probably wont until you get into 25 man raiding

I am also noticing that bosses seem to have some resisiance rating, I definately crit less on bosses.

So I think Rapstar is right. Focus on +damage, and get a nice balance of +CRIT and +HIT gear to compliment it.

Alternatively you can get heaps of +CRIT and rely on having that imp. SB debuff up as often as possible, which is basically my current attack plan
