"+damage to shadow spells and effects"?

I'm getting close to the 40's and I keep hearing how great the shadoweave items are but I'm not exactly sure - what exactly are "shadow spells and effects"? does that mean shadow bolt? I'm mostly affliction so I'm not sure how this is of much help to anything other than shadowbolt and shadowburn.

On a side note, I royally screwed up my orb quest and got the infernal version which gives +fire instead of +shadow damage

Now that I'm annoyed enough to reduce this newly gained orb into a pile of disenchanted parts, I could use some advice for a decent replacement.

That just means that increases your spells that deal shadow damage. Things like Siphon Life, Corruption, Unstable Affliction, your curses and shadow bolt. While if it had said fire instead of shadow, it would increase things like immolate, searing pain, conflagrate, etc.

is it possible to redo this? If I trash the orb? bank it? I'm so damn disappointed that I didn't realize what I was doing when I did this quest. I was under the mistaken impresion that there was only one kind of orb, being the shadow damage one. *sighs* Can anyone at all tell me what a good replacement off-hand would be for the 40+ range? I want to get this thing out of my sight ASAP because it's nothing but a reminder of my screwup now every time I look at it :/

I wouldnt worry too much about what gear you have as long as you are managing quess well.

I know this might not sound like much help but you replace it so fast through the levels its not worth worring about.

There are some nice staffs around in the 40's - much better than any dagger/sword off hand combo there is at that level. There is a fantastic staff that took me to outland from then Udead summoning boss in ZF - there are some other great caster items there so i would try to run that a few times.

Umbral Crystal should be a superior alternative to the orb if you can afford it. Together with hypnotic blade it's one of the best combinations you can have around that level if you mainly need +shadow.
