Setpieces vs other good things

Hello all,

I have a specific case I'd like to address, involving the waistpiece:

I'm currently wearing the PvP Defiler piece http://www.thottbot.com/i20165
but i bought the Dreadmist setpiece a while back http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=16702

I'm assuming I'll never pick up any more of the 53 Dreadmist set. Should I switch to the Dreadmist waistpiece or stick with what I have? (you can refer to the build links below my name to see what other armor pieces i run. I boost +stam and +int right now instead of +damage). I haven't equipped it yet, and considering it sells for ~15-20 gold, and vendor takes it for 4, i stand to lose about 10g if I equip for no reason.

Additionally, I've seen about equal numbers of high level warlocks running around with many set pieces, and those who just jumble high quality pieces together. I do assume that this is personal preference depending on what stat the player wants to maximize..

Edit -->> after i read what i wrote, it seems obvious to me that I should switch. but I'd still like input to confirm what i'm thinking.

Second Edit -->> The same situation arises with my gloves. I currently use Mana-Shaping Handwraps http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=16702
compare that with the dreadmist gloves http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=16705
I suppose I would need to be running 4+ dreadmist to make it better, considering the 4+ bonus is a damage/healing boost of 23

Re: Setpieces vs other good things

Well if you ask me, then dreadmist set is one useless set. I wouldn't buy it, still if I would find it, I would wear it. Before The Burning Crusade it has some meaning to get it and then upgrade to deathmist. However now it is no point to buy this set or to try to farm all pieces of it, because in first days in outlands you will get many better items. But as I already told - if you have some of pieces already - wear it, if it is even few stats better. Those 10g which you will lose is nothing - you can earn it in two quests.

But that, of course, is my personal oppinion.

Re: Setpieces vs other good things

If you're high enough level to be getting dreadmist drops, just push on to 60, head to outlands, and get real gear. Having so very little +damage on it, dreadmist was basically worthless at level 60 unless you upgraded it to deathmist (took for-evar) and then it was still pretty trashy, with a few pieces that were better than Felheart.

Compared to outland, any gear below BWL gear is crap... just pure crap. BWL gear is easily-replacable, but I do still find myself wearing 3 pieces at 70 due to set bonuses, but I will replace them soon enough. Tier 3 is about the only gear that compares to Kara raid gear, and anything else isn't worth the time and effort.

So, to sum up: before you go to Outlands, it is a useless waste of time to worry about chasing gear, and your time is far better spent levelling up your toon.

Re: Setpieces vs other good things

Just to add emphasis to this point as many seem to miss it: Don't waste your time gearing up from 50-60. Run with what you have, then jump into Outlands at 58.

I just went there, completely untwinked with absolutely zero pieces of PvP or epic gear and gained 1,000 HP and at least that much mana as I leveled from 58 to 60 doing nothing but quests in Hellfire and the marsh place.

At the same time, I received seven item upgrades (hat, legs, chest, trinket, weapon, wand and shoulders), mostly quest rewards, but a few green drops off trash. That equated to some spell crit (which I never had before) and another +100 damage/healing over my old gear.

I mostly drain tank and sometimes fear kite when the room is available or I need to fight something harder.

Besides, levels are more important than gear until 70, anyway. Those new spells and talents will smoke small equipment upgrades any day of the week.

Level up to 58. Erase your quest log (other than those in the Warlock category), then jump through the portal. Outland awaits!

Edit: Forgot to mention that you can get four item upgrades in one night from quests before you hit 59. The fifth one is required level of 60, so keep it banked until the following day when you level up. 8)
