Gear for Destruction Spec

I am currently affliction spec'd decent gear for the spec. I was wondering if there is a good guide to speccing AND gearing for Destruction. I want a change of pace but still be good at my game.

Re: Gear for Destruction Spec

Generally speaking you need max spell hit, 1100+ damage and 25% crit before talents.

Uh, not exactly.

You will certainly want to max your spell hit (202), but the other numbers are off. After spell hit you will want to get your Crit to at least 20% (untalented). Spell damage can be added after the hit cap and 20% crit have been reached.

Hmm pretty high.. it really depends on what content you are raiding.

I say 1000 +damage (unbuff no fel armor) atleast 18-20% + devastation and 190-202 +hit.

Max spell hit (202 rating or 16%) is a must. I have heard both 1000+ and 1100+ mentioned for spell damage--usually this is unbuffed (i.e., without fel armor). I have also heard the 25% crit thrown around as well.

It is the 25% crit before talents that has me puzzled. I am not sure of the origin of this number. Perhaps, someone did some calculations.

That said, if you take a look at Nihilum's main lock (arguably, the best geared lock playing at the moment), Buzzkill, who is 0/21/40 spec.
http://armory.wow-europe.com/#charac...don&n=Buzzkill

You will notice that he doesnt have 25% crit with talents. Actually, I think he is closer to 20% after talents (I am at work and cannot look him up right now) making him around 17% crit before talents.

Granted, he has a boatload of damage (+1400 I believe) and with that much damage, perhaps, he scaled his crit% back to reduce the chance of grabbing agro.

In any event, 25% crit, 1100 unbuffed damage, and 202 spell hit rating seems to me to be pretty difficult to attain pre-MH/BT. If not, I would be very nice if we can start discussing specific gear from SSC/TK (and below) as there may be items and combos that I have overlooked.

I think 25% crit or whatever is somewhat of an arbitrary number that people came up with. As far as contribution to your dps, hit rating is best followed by damage and finally crit. According to the leulier spreadsheet, 1 crit rating is only worth about 0.5-0.6 damage while 1 hit rating is worth about 1.1-1.2 damage. Once you're hit capped, +damage is the best to focus on with crit being nice but of lesser value--just need to balance all the stats out.

These would be your goals if your guild has SSC/TK on farm status.

Don't let people make you believe you can't play Destruction (particularly 0/21/40) without those numbers though.

Just do your best to get the important stats as high as possible (hit, damage, crit) and you'll do fine.

That's the whole point. Destruction spec scales with the gear you get from those high level instances. Before that, if you wanted to help your raid, you would be affliction.

I fully agree with you. The only downside is that IMP SB will be less time up to buff the rest of the raid shadow damage.

As a destructo warlock. If you are serious about your raiding you should be aiming to get your +Crit up to increase ISB uptime. Personal DPS is nice too, but generally there is 1/2 destructo locks for every 3/4 affy locks. So ISB uptime should be your primary aim

If you are selfish and want to top damage meters, then stack +damage.
