Haste and affliction
Hi all, I'm just new to these forums today (so please don't eat me) But I wanted to clarify a few questions I have in regards to haste. Im a UA lock and I sit on 1304 shadow damage just with fel armour, fully buffed im around 1450. I understand alot of locks go destro in t6 content, but I can (for now) keep up in dps and its a play style I prefer. My guild is only currently up to the council in BT and has Hyjal clear, so in the content I am currently in at what point as an Aff lock do I need to start stacking haste? I've heard a few people toss around that after 1400 damage raid buffed is the time to start stacking haste. 2nd question is - How much haste do I need to reduce my gcd for it to be beneficial as an aff lock? Thanks for your time. |

Re: Haste and affliction
If you want advice for haste/gear selection it really depends on spec and balance of other stats an armory link would be very helpful. *** Information added 0 Minutes and 31 Seconds later... *** Try plugging your stats into WoW Warlock DPS Spreadsheet it will give you the answers you need. |

Re: Haste and affliction
Sigh, really... why do people keep linking that thing. For some people it is quite complicated to use and much more easier to just have someone list the ratings of certain stats. if they say they are affliction in BT it would be assumed the person is 44/0/16+1 for Malediction. People just want to know how much haste is worth over stats such as Crit / Hit / Damage, Crit / Damage when your hit capped and Crit when your over a certain damage point (1300ish). |

Re: Haste and affliction
Every situation is unique and all stats scale differently in different situations. A spreadsheet allows you to maximize your personal dps there is no other way around it you need to look at your personal character as a whole. *** Information added 1 Minutes and 5 Seconds later... *** as for 16 points in destro that is just plain strange 17 or 18 would be the norm. |

Re: Haste and affliction
Personally I've never viewed haste as a worthwhile stat for affliction. Yes it helps, a very little. You only have 2 dots that have cast times, UA and Immo. Not much of a benifit. There is the fact that it does now lower the global cooldown. The question is how much does it take to lower the global cooldown to 1second. If it's high, I wouldn't bother. The only real benifit you'll see out of it is in chaining s. bolts. Howerver, considering you only cast s. bolts about 40% of the time your fighting, your certianly not going to get as much use out of it as a destro lock. But thats just imo.

Re: Haste and affliction
I tink haste is as effective if not moreso for an affliction lock than destro. Affliction is made up of many high damage per cast time spells, not large nukes. Until now affliction dps has been capped around the fact that you couldnt go below GCD and th eonly way to scale was with +damage. That has changed, applying your instants faster because GCD has been lowered by x% means that you get to use them more often, and have mroe time for SB nuking in between. Heroism as affliction now is great! I used to not cast some dots during hero because the GCD wasnt worth casting a 1.8 second SB, now however I can refresh all dots in half the time during a hero.. its very nice I do not have however examples of point for point values.. have ot use that spreadsheet for a ballpark.. however form my own personal exp.. haste in affliction is sexy |

Re: Haste and affliction
My apologies I should have given a bit more info in my original post. I am hit capped, raid buffed my crit is around 18/19% and now when I'm getting gear - my question is .. At what stage should I start stacking haste if at all? Like I stated in my previous post my raid buffed shadow damage is around 1450? So should I swap out some peices for haste gear or should i swap some gems for haste gems? Or should i just keep stacking pure damage? |

Re: Haste and affliction
Put the items/gems in question into a spreadsheet, and figure out if those haste items/regemming is an increase or a decrease to your dps. There is no hard and fast rule about how to gear. I could tell you "Sacrifice everything for haste rating, it's worth it." So you'd drop 200 spell damage and 5% crit for 5% haste, which would put the lie to me. Something a lot of rogues (at least from what I've seen) have noticed and a lot of warlocks haven't.. is that upgrades don't unnecessarily mean always gaining hit rating/haste/crit/whatever. I went spellstrike-engineering helm, dropping about 30 hit rating in the process but due to the meta slot I gained it was a net increase of about 45 dps.
