Dreadgear Vs Felshroud and other PVP gear issues

I have searched for weeks trying to get definitive information on PVP gear information but I haven't been able to find anyone who has posted about specific benefits/deficits for warlocks.

My most pressing question is Dreadgear or Felshroud. Currently I have 2 pieces of each, and I've seen posts where people say .2 seconds off of fear is better than 35 resil, but they don't back it up.

I would like to hear from dedicated Battleground and Arena players about their choices on PVP gear. Also, I would like to beg Canadianpimp or someone with a lot of PVP experience to do an in depth gear guide on what is available to the Warlock.

Currently I'm specced SL/SL but I play it much like I did when I was 41/0/20. dot, dot, dot, dot, Searing Pain, Searing Pain, etc. ad nauseum.

From my own experience switching from PVE to PVP is a major challenge. Almost like buying a totally new game. I'm hooked to PVP and now I can hold my own pretty well. But I've read Gearing 101 by Canadianpimp 5-10 times and I crave that level of info for PVPing. Gemming, enchants, etc. Please, generic statements like "go SL/SL" and "stack resilience" just don't impart enough information.

Don't listen to the people that tell you .2 seconds off of fear is better than the resilience bonus, because it's not. That .2 seconds hardly makes a difference when you have a melee class smacking at you already. Fearing is really only viable when someone isn't riding your balls and is more for control than anything. I spend most of my time in the arena fearing a caster like a mage or another warlock and healers, rather than a warrior because fear just isn't viable against a class that can make themselves immune to it every 20 seconds.

You can check my armory out here: The World of Warcraft Armory

As you can see, I've opted to go with 3/2 as most of the top warlocks do. This way, you don't have to worry about socketing resilience...it just comes with the gear and the set bonuses. As is with my pet out, I have 13,040 hp unbuffed, 498 resilience, and 1260 shadow damage.

My neck piece only has a steady talasite (4 res, 6 stam) as a filler gem because I'm not going to bother dropping an epic one into it until next season. The rest of my gemming is to get socket bonuses and is optimized for damage output, rather than stacking stam. The spell damage/haste gems are nice because faster casting on immolate and searing pain is sweet and the global cooldown speed increase is also a nice boost. But more than anything, they're socketed that way as filler gems...aka they allow me to get my socket bonuses without sacrificing damage.

Start off with the blue rep gear...it's not bad considering how easily obtainable it is. Other than that, make sure you get 10 arena games in every week, NO MATTER WHAT RATING so you can start grabbing pieces of the s3 and s4 gear when it comes out. The s1 gladiator gear is decent, and if you enjoy battlegrounds I suggest you start grinding out those pieces and start to save once blizzard announces s4, as the s2 gear will then become honor gear.

Other than that, grab all your vindicators, the epic pvp trinket, and a battlemasters. With all of the reputation gear to start along with those pieces, you should have a pretty decent set to get yourself going with.

Re: Dreadgear Vs Felshroud and other PVP gear issues

A lot of warlocks I've talked to get the two felshroud pieces simply because they have better stats (felweave gloves and head).

I used to go with the 4-set of dreadgear, but recently switched to the double res bonus. For me, the fear bonus was really nice in two situations:

1. You're in a mirror match and have to fear the other warlock slightly better than he fears you.
2. Against a warrior or rogue where we screwed up and they got on my resto druid partner without him being able to get away. A quicker fear to give my druid just enough time to get into travel form or charge was very helpful.

Overall I'm liking the double 2-set bonus instead of the faster fear because I can get more spell damage gems now.

Re: Dreadgear Vs Felshroud and other PVP gear issues

I used to go with 3/2 for most comps until the 45 resil trinket became available. I use 4/1 Dread/Fel for all comps now, but it's hard to say that one is objectively better than the other. If you go with 3/2, you end up with like 35-40 more spell damage, so it depends how much that 0.2 seconds off Fear is worth for you. The Felweave piece I use is the head because it has more spell damage than the Dreadweave hat.

I really think the 4-piece bonus is better for double DPS, as missing a Fear is much more detrimental than having your DoTs tick for slightly less.

If you're still in the gearing-up process, 3/2 is probably a much better choice.

Dubs, how do you like the haste gear that you have? I'm probably going to work more haste into my gear next season, but I haven't tried it at all yet. Is it noticeable?
