maximizing gear, new concept to me.. how about you?
I was thinking of transfering servers a couple weeks ago and spoke to one GL who said they're a firm believer in maximizing gear and that I'd need to drop tailoring for enchanting to get the ring enchants on my rings (even tho I know there's upgrades out there). At first I thought he was gonna suggest LW for Drums but regardless, I blew it off thinking I'm not going to drop tailoring for enchanting if anything I could drop engineering (which I don't want to either) needless to say I'm not pursuing that guild.
But is this a common practice in deep T6 guilds, his was 2/6 SWP. I just never heard of it until then and then didn't even think about it until a bit ago, I tried searching for it but didn't get any results on the topic. Maybe some of my fellow locks have heard something |

Enchanting = "free" +24 spelldamage. How much would tailoring give you?

Re: maximizing gear, new concept to me.. how about you?
Its not uncommon to expect members to absolutely min/max their gear but generally its more usual to pick up LW rather than enchanting. I have tailoring and Engineering so I stand to benefit if I do get any drops in SWP but as to having enforced professions?
Not something I agree with but I do respect those who are willing to change for the sake of progress. |

Re: maximizing gear, new concept to me.. how about you?
i am 375 tailor / enchant and while i know i could drop tailoring for engineering for one piece of gear i personally dont recomend it. i know shadow priests who rerolled enchanting for like Hoho said "free 24 spell damage". While the extra spell damage is a nice addition one trend i have seen lately in professions are the "epic" items that only come with that certain profession.
Who is to say that come next expansion you need to re-level tailoring because some awesome gear that you need was released with the new tailoring spells. We never know what classes will need what professions but you can generally know that clothies wont need blacksmithing. With that said i dont recommend it. the 24 spell damage is not worth the hours farming to level enchanting, or even the thousands of gold you would spend on the auction house to level said profession. |

They are nice, no question about that. Only "problem" is they don't tend to drop all that often. Also ring enchants stack with robe and you can have both.
It costs less than week of dailys. I got my ring enchants for ~1.2k buying all the stuff from AH except for couple of stacks of arcane dust and ~10 large prismatics. If you really want to min-max then swiching between LW/enchanting is the cheapest as you can save tons of gold by saving the enchanting rods and you don't have to level LW all that high. [edit] Now to think about it I've spent more money on lesser gear upgrades on my SP (girdle of ruination -> belt of blasting). That was less dps added than ring enchants Last edited by hoho; July 17, 2008 at 03:12 PM. |

Re: maximizing gear, new concept to me.. how about you?
i dunno how the economy is on the euro servers but i can tell you right now its like 10g for a greater planar essence on my server, people tend to buyout enchanting mats and re sell them, so i pretty much farm on my own and only assume using AH is a waste of money...but that is my server, economics tends to differ from server to server.

Re: maximizing gear, new concept to me.. how about you?
Enchanting, for me, was not that bad.
I'm sure I spent somewhere around 1k leveling it in total, but the actual gold cost? Much less spent in actual gold, considering all of the greens I had collected from doing dailies. Those shattered sun supplies are not to be underestimated. Actually, my primary motivation to level enchanting was to DE all of my greens, which were collecting and overfilling my bank toon. So I decided, if I'm going to level Enchanting, might as well be on my main Warlock, who could benefit from the +24 damage that cannot be gained by any other profession. You only need 360 Enchanting, as opposed to 375, and reputation with Keepers of Time. I had already farmed the rep beforehand in order to buy the Continuum Blade way back when, so that was taken care of. Sell enchants in the trade channel. It sucks, but it saves a load of money, especially at 300+. Oh yeah. And do dailies. |

wowecon.com - Item: Greater Planar Essence
Around 10G here too. I get tons of them from DE'ing daily quest packages. I've even got a few prismatics from them ![]() |

Toulon666, it is ultimately your decision to pick what you would like to do. If he is all gung-ho about you dropping tailoring, flat out ask him,
"Are you going to be financing me to level this profession to 375?" If he says hell no, then you tell him hell no. |
