Most efficient use of arena points?

I mainly pve but have been wanting to get into the pvp scene a little bit. My pvp set is pretty atrocious, though. (case in point) Anyways, I am working on some arena points but since I have neither enough skill or gear right now to get a lot of points I need to spend the points I do get in the most efficient way possible.

So on to my question... would it be better to spend my arena points on s4 gear, and acquire huge upgrades slower or spend the arena points on s3 gear with the possibility that if I fill out the set and end up getting really successful (which probably isn't very likely), I would then have to replace it with s4 gear? Obviously the personal rating of some brutal gear would be a hinderence anyways.

I have never done the math but I always assumed that if you converted all the stats on the arena items to item points and divided item points by arena points required to buy them, you would see that you get more item points per arena point on last season's gear. I figured this was because you are paying a bit of a premium for the most current gear. If this is the case, it seems like it would be better to go for the s3 gear with my points.

Has anyone else done the math or have any personal experience with this?

Edit for summary...
TLDR version: When starting from scratch and on not very good teams is it better to get last season's gear or this season's gear?

This will not be a factor since except for S4 gloves all the rest have minimum team/personal ratings required as you know. If you don't have someone to carry you , you probably will not have the rating until you get more gear and resillience and thus won't be able to get S4. S3 items do not have rating requirements except for shoulders so i believe unless you luck out this will be your only option. Grab S4 gloves with arena, all S2 you can with honor, and then fill in S3 spots as you get more arena points on the higher rating items. If you do better you have more points so i would get the best available. I didn't do it this season but last season i did weighted stats and for arena point it worked out about the same so i went for the better items.

Re: Most efficient use of arena points?

I have found that if you can find someone decent to carry you, then you should wear your t6 to get those first few pieces. (Probably better for 3's and 5's and not recommended for 2's) I like to spec a pvp fire destro spec and wear my raid set to do 3's and we don't do too shabby.

Re: Most efficient use of arena points?

If I am not mistaken, with your personal rating, you should be able to obtain the Brutal Gladiator's Dreadweave Leggings. If you can obtain it, I think this should be your first upgrade rather than the brutal gloves. IMO, the brutal gloves should be the last one to obtain since it doesn't require a personal rating requirement (unless it is the most significant upgrade you need).

I made that mistake of getting the S4 gloves first, instead of the other S3 gears.

Difference from the legs that you have:
+308 armor
+36 stamina
+17 int
+11 res
+28 spell damage

Re: Most efficient use of arena points?

Thank you very much to those who have responded so far. I think that what I will do is get the s4 leggings, continue to save up another 1500 arena points or so and then see where my personal rating is at that point. If I am climbing the ranks then I will buy whatever bit of s4 I can get with my rating. If it seems that my rating will never increase then I will just get the s4 gloves and get s3 in all the other slots.

So to answer my own question, I guess I will get s4 in all the slots that I have the rating for and s3 in the other cases.
