From Destruction to Afflic
Hi, as most of you know, I have been a Destruction lock since below lvl30, well, to help out the new guild that I am in, *raiding* I have decided to switch over to Affliction.
I have read and read and read some more about gemming, enchants gear etc...and frankly, I am confused. So I leave it to you my fellow brothers and sisters in pure evil, What gemming/enchant changes can you suggest for me? Pleae note that I also have the Greatsword of Horrid dreams and the Star lamp/sage of Terrok combos as well. |

Re: From Destruction to Afflic
damage, damage, damage, damage and More damage.
Gemming for sta is pointless (unless you have insanely low health which you clearly don't) grind rep and get the head enchant, look seriously at doing some PvP to get upgrades (Spellblade, S4 neck, S2 Shoulders, S3 Bracers) and some Heroics/Karazhan badge farming for the OH/wand and Icon at least. The Gearing guide is essential reading - I can only strongly suggest that you cease to worry so much about spell +hit (given that for the majority of your spells you can use suppression and Shadowbolts are only ~40% of your damage output) and stack as much +damage as possible. +damage on gloves and bracers (as soon as you find a pair you want to keep at least) as well as +6 stats on chest and subtlety on cloak (again with the caveat that you should definately find one you want to keep). There are loads of threads on affliction DPS (there's a nice mini-guide CP put together that I can recommend) so the playstyle itself is well doccumented, and I would definately read the section on raid builds to see if you can pick up further pointers. All that aside, what's actually confusing you? If you've read the guides/searched and still need some pointers then we will of course try to help but there's nothing whatsoever that we can tell you which hasn't already been covered ![]() |

Re: From Destruction to Afflic
Thank you for your great advice, really. It has helped alot.
Whats been confusing me, has been the spell hit rating. Firstly, everyone says in Afflic, with suppresion, you can have a hit rating cap at 79. However, also I am reading that I should be still trying to hit the magic 202 mark as well? ![]() Now, I think I have figured it out , thanks to you * Quote:
I am sorry that I am asking silly questions, however I have accually almost no afflic time at all, I have been destro the whole way so I am really in new grounds. I am struggling through the change okay, messing around with my spell rotation, made a few gemming changes. I will be making a couple more along with a few enchants. The biggest thing I did was switching to the sword/offhand combo. Quite a difference in the Spell damage. ![]() As for pvping...hmmmmm might be more fun with afflic... |

Re: From Destruction to Afflic
Well, if you can get 202 AND stack loads of damage (which generally becomes the case in later content) then of course it never hurts to have 202 hit - that said you're not going to lose masses of hit from a little re-gemming so hopefully you'll still see an increase in DPS.
One thing i would recommend is comparing stats via leuliers spreadsheet just so you don't go overboard and drop so much hit it would really gimp your DD Spells. |
