What spell hit value do you recommend for an Affliction warlock?

Hey all,

I searched the forums, and came across a lot of (some tiring) 'discussions' about spellhit and affliction builds, which didn't really answer my question.
So my quick question is: What spellhit value do you recommend for an Affliction warlock, who is raiding SSC/TK but soon going to MH/BT?

I reccomend as close to cap (202) as you can get.
5 points in the supression talent will make it so you need 76 hit for your affliction spells. But remember this does not effect destruction spells (shadowbolt) and shadowbolt should account for more than half your damage in most fights, even as affliction.
If you are doing SSC/TK, aquiring hit gear shouldn't be much of an issue.

just to add to that, you should be able to swap out to a ruin based build at your gear level, and do a bit more damage than a full UA affliction build. if you do so, then 202 hit is a muct as SB become a a much larger percentage of your damage.

If staying Affliction, UA beats out Ruin in DPS. I still suggest capping at 202 hit as soon as possible though. Then you'll be able to use those points in Suppression somewhere else and the higher you get to 202, the more DPS your shadowbolts will produce.

Ruin at a gear threshold will beat UA however the gear threshold is pretty high(Usually late BT/early sunwell) you would need to spreadsheet it yourself with your current gear to check and see if it is a damage increase.

I think I have decent gear UA still beats Ruin if you are staying Affliction. I have played with Leulier's Spreadsheet every which way possible.

I just asked, to pass on the info to our raids Affliction warlock, as I am destruction skilled.
We're trying to beat Vashj at the moment (emphasis on 'trying' as our last attempts failed, probably because of strider kiting), and I'm looking to improve the warlocks in our raid, for rogues and hunters beat everyone else on a Karathress and Vashj run at the moment, and I'm afraid the warlocks are the weak point in our raid right now.

I see UA/Affliction ~45dps behind Male/Ruin every time I run the spreadsheet and of course you do need to consider with that the latter you get slightly higher raid ISB uptime because you've removed one spell from your rotation in lieu of more shadowbolt spam.

Thats with my usual gear, let me throw in some gear without haste and see what happens...(or a minimal amount of haste, at least).

The gap gets closer as you remove haste but it still comes out slightly ahead for me - then again it is marginal and probably not worth worrying about in the final analysis

For the OP - getting as much hit as possible without gimping your +damage and incrementally dropping supression until you're capped from gear alone is the way forward, definately.

@ Zaeolos - the biggest thing that will make the difference between your gear and the point where ruin outweighs UA is going to be the 4pT6 bonus I believe there is a +crit from gear when it happens as well but the biggest contributing factor is that extra 6% to your bolts imo.
