Another tough gear decision (T5)

I don't intent for this to be a "Pimp my Gear" post...I am merely looking for "out of the box" solutions for my current gear change choice.

Current armory should be accurate.

I just picked up the Pattern : Boots of Blasting last night. A fellow officer beat me by 2 points on the roll and then realize that he had better (Mages..UGH).

Because he bequeathed such a golden ticket....I would like to put them to good use. They are AWESOME boots...for the Destro build, but I am a devote Afflic. I just barely changed out my FSW Shoulder for my first T5 last week. Broke my heart to loose the Shadow damage.

I threw all this into Lieuler's! Straight switch out for my FSW Boots shows a slight DPS as well as a substantial Shadow damage loss, but a big gain in Crit and total spell damage. This also put my Hit at 212.....SO

I then swtiched out my Bloodgem (not need the hit as much) for my Icon and it rocked...but now too low on hit (180). I re-gem'd some stuff to get the hit higher, looked at switching out my Wand, OH, Ursine Bracers and MANY other items to gain in DPS/damage, yet maintain my cap'd hit....but just can't come up with a decent solution that would make these boots as golden as they look (right now).

Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated. The transition from T4/FSW to T5 is tough. I plan on keeping these, on the off chance I do move to Destro....but the delimma (and all the numbers) are driving me crazy.

Thanks all

Xep

P.S. I hope I put this in the right forum....I couldn't find anything about the Boots of Blasting (except Pimp's Gear Guide).

Re: Another tough gear decision (T5)

Im in the same boat. (0/21/40)
I had a bunch of t4 type stuff on 2 months agro and was rocking the perfect stat balance 1200 spell dam/20% crit/202 spell hit. all to the tee. It was kinda gross how i got each stat dead nuts on.

So 2 months down the road i start getting badge gear, and za gear with all this haste and extra stam/intl on it. And im rocking those boots of blasting too,

Let me say this. My haste rating is 170 atm, and man it is crazy how much more overall damage i can dish out. And the fast cast bolts are flat out awesome. However...

It all comes at a cost and this is where im feeling you bro.
My spell hit is down, my shadow dam is down (to lose this stat killed me) and my crit is only 17%. weak. I dont get Blizz's deal. Kara stuff has spell hit all over it, (which is PRIOR to ZA in progression) but none of the za stuff ive gotten has any spell hit thus far. Its just haste. And as flatout badass as Haste is, im still feeling discontent about the loss of such a crucial stat.

So i look at the situation. playing with gear combos. and really theres no way for me to use the new "upgrades" i got and still have the stats a t5/t6 raider should have. Hate to do it, but im abandoning the case of stats for the moment and just rocking the upgrades. At least it feels good to wear the new gear.

Re: Another tough gear decision (T5)

I've decided to carry spare gear...use the stuff that rocks on 99% of what I face, and switch to my 202 spell hit set-up for bosses. Its kind of like the off-tank having to carry DPS gear. Really though, I have come to think of gear as PvP, PvE, or Boss/Raid gear and I no longer believe all PvE gear is perfect for the Boss/Raid set-ups. BTW, the 2 piece T5 bonus will be great for leveling when Wrath of the Lich King comes out, hang on to some of it.

Re: Another tough gear decision (T5)

You'll end that soon enough(the many gear holdings) as if you get through BT at all enough to try mother, you'd probably have about 3 bags with gear alone. I have in my bags: a full pvp set, pve set(and no I switch out nothing), FR set(leo), SR set(mother). Add in that we have 1 bag slot taken up by a shard bag we can't really be like some other classes and carry extra pieces like that. Much less it pisses me off to no end when we start trash to mother and have 5 people say,"I forgot my SR." You really shouldn't need to be swapping gear out for trash as trash is just that. MAYBE for like ZA to get through trash faster for the timer, but in other raids it's really a waste of space.

About the gear itself however, that is yet another reason why you shouldn't: 1) touch haste til sunwell and 2) avoid 90% of the easily obtainable haste items. You WILL gimp your other stats. A lot of ideal gear for a destro lock that isn't raiding deep into MH/BT is still actually right in front of you.

My big question really would be why do you have points in suppression at 202 hit?? Throw 3 into fel concentration to get past that tier and the extra one you have at the end finish off devastation or use it to be the middle hs lock.

Regardless of being destro or not, the OH you have isn't even giving you 1% haste and your badges would have been better spent as affliction getting the orb of the soul eater. As destro they would have been spent better on nothing at all as fathomstone would have been a far better piece at your current gear. Once again beside the point but worth saying.

To remedy your situation in order to put on the boots, keep your trinket and only be slightly under hit cap get a new cloak. You'd be 8 hit under cap which is fine. If you really wanted to be good though you could swap out the 15 stam gem in your belt for something with hit as 15 stam isn't saving you and isn't helping you dps more. I'd suggest getting the one from gruul's or ZA for a cloak. I'd say the gruul's one for now because really you don't have the stats to use haste. Those changes would let you use the boots, keep your hit a couple points from cap, and all the villagers will rejoice.

Re: Another tough gear decision (T5)

I've used both the boots and shoulders through all BT, replacing the shoulders and boots with t6 only. They are probably the best you can get in the slots untill these items and your spelldamage goes towards the magical 1500 mark.

Re: Another tough gear decision (T5)

T6 replacing BooB(my way of saying boots rather than belt of blasting) is a bit of a stretch. Slippers of the Seacaller are a very good pick up mostly due to the fact you're hurting to drop excess hit towards the end of BT/beginning of SWP.
