Crit vs. spell damage
Which is better, 1100 shadow with 25.36% crit or 1236 shadow damage with 23.56% crit. Numbers may be a bit off the server is down atm so numbers maybe a bit off but are very close. I am sorry if I am posting this in the wrong spot, I know the order for a destro lock is plus hit, +spell damage + crit and then +haste, However to keep the would it better to have the chance of keeping the improved shadow bolt buff up from critting or have my non crits hit harder. I feel like a nub asking but the numbers are very close. It helps to have fellow warlocks look this over.
EDIT: Please make title indictive of what the thread is about. Last edited by Maltyrius; August 12, 2008 at 09:55 AM. |

Re: Question
If that 25% or 23% is base tooltip crit, and you are using the standard destro build, take the 1236 shadow damage and 23%. You get an additional 8% crit from talents for shadowbolt, so you're over 30% actual crit. You need 25% actual crit to keep ISB up for yourself, so, you're good.

Re: Question
You actually only get an extra 5% above the tooltip from talents. 3% is included in the TT.

Re: Question
go with the damage. It really depends on group makeup. if you have a lot of locks with isb that can make up for lost crits, but if you're the only one then crit becomes more important. But, if that 23.56% is TT, then you're more than fine with crit (don't forget all the crit group buffs you can get).

Re: Crit vs. spell damage
136 spell damage will always be better than 42 crit rating points.

Re: Crit vs. spell damage
139 is hands down better then 42 crit rating for both pvp and pve. TT crit is increased by 5% in a destro build or if you are aff then it would be the 8% from backlash and devastation.

Quote:
In order for 42 crit to equal 136 spell damage, you would have to get more than 3 times the DPS value from every crit rating point than you get from each spell damage point. I will eat my monitor if you can find an instance where that is true for a shadow lock. |
