How much haste is too much haste?
I have been an avid reader of this forums for quite some time, but really never had a reason to post. Until today.
Me and a few fellow locks on my server where having a discussion last night. Then it finally occured to me. Is there such a thing as too much haste? I have read all about how great and wonderfull haste is (and it is i'm not complaining it's great). Just realized I'm sitting at nearly 400 haste atm and that does not include the pants of Brut or the trinket of M'uru. Most likely in the end leaving me at over 500 by the time I'm done gearing. Btw i'm i logged off in my hitcap get up (usually spec under hit cap when running with the proper totem). This is not a topic covered anywhere i have seen so i leave this question to you. Just really need to know how much is too much? Anyone? |

i can't relaly give a hard and fast answer, but once you get enough haste to get the global cooldown to 1 second, you're effectively capped, if I recall correctly.
again, not 100% sure and only running around with 147 haste i my proper raid gear |

When it is no longer your most efficient stat. Whenever you get upgrades you should re-enter your stats into leulier's spreadsheet and see what it is saying your most valuable stat at the time is. It's something that be re-evaluated with every gear change.

- and i guess your right Debuff just got to continue playing it by ear and punching in those numbers to the spreadsheet. Guess i was just looking for a definitive point that it stops being as effective as +damage. Thank you for your time. |

@ the OP: Sadly I think there is no easy answer because its not like you are looking at a graph and eventually one line (haste) intersects another line (+damage) and from then on haste will be better for ever and ever. Think of it more like every time you acquire more of X stat, the value of the other stats increases (although by different amounts). The developers definitely worked it out so that you have to increase your stats in a balanced fashion. The only reason most people stacked haste in mid to late BT and sunwell is because spell haste was really only introduced at around that point so people had to catch its value up to the other stats. That's probably a terrible way to put it but maybe you can get what I'm trying to say. |

Re: How much haste is too much haste?
Just curious if you could explain why 788 haste brings the GCD to 1 sec.
Currently the GCD is 1.5 seconds. If you are 100% hasted you will act twice as fast or in half the time... therefore 100% haste would be 1570 haste rating and the GCD would be a theortical .75 seconds. Since the GCD cap is 1 second then you only need 66.67% haste because 66.67% of .75 seconds is .5 seconds. GCD 1.5 seconds -.5 seconds (66.67% haste) = 1 second GCD. 66.67% haste = 1047 haste rating Or am I completely nuts? Kalium |

Re: How much haste is too much haste?
Well i'm pretty sure the number of haste to lower the GCD to 1 second is higher than 788.
A heroism gives 30% haste. That basically means it gives you 15.7*30 haste Which is 471. Take that away from the number that gives you the cap and I suppose thats around the value you want to be getting in order to maximise heroism usage. Of course, that doesnt take into account the time that you aren't heroismed but if that is more than what you can get with heroism, then it's still better to stack haste. |
