Help with 2k Dps

Well, I'm a warlock that really wants to see over 2k dps constantly in any huge dps fights. I checked out my dps on Rage today and I was doing around 2000-2100 in the beginning of the fight, but towards the end of the middle at around 50% of rage's hp, it dropped to nearly 1850 then back up to 1930 at the end of the fight.

My stats are unbuffed:
About 1250 sd w/ fel armour
233 hit
172 haste
and about 22 crit (27% crit with devastation)

A lot of warlocks that are in end game content that I know tell me to get my crit to 25% without devastation no matter what and that i'll see the constant 2k dps constantly, but they also tell me that my sd is a bit low.

What to improve or dps rotation to hit 2k constantly? I'm usually the CoD lock. help! lol

Well without looking at armoury profile its hard to say. your +hit is a little high but you might have that much purely from Item stats and not from Gems or enchants. If your getting near 2k dps I imagine its just from gear

If you do have any +hit gems or enchants that would be the first thing to change.

Re: Help with 2k Dps

Can you describe a typical fight?

How much threat do you give your tank before starting to dps? What type of trinkets do you have and when do you use them? Do you chain mana pot? when do you use shatter? Whats your group comp?

23% crit is more than enough, in fact I think it is about exactly what I have. I would drop crit for damage or haste if I could as sometime my spike threat from a good crit streak tosses off my threat pacing.

I would focus on increasing your spell damage ans haste ratings, before even concidering crit. Untill the expac, of all the good lock stats, crit is of most abundance through group buffs, so i always chose to pick up haste or damage over it.

The World of Warcraft Armory

That's my armory. And yeah i'm most likely going to be replacing the gloves with t6 and probably 12 sd in it to get my sd up a bit more. My hit goes down a bit under the cap. Also i'm replacing my boots with slippers of the seacaller off naj, which hopefully will go to me. Other than that I really want to hit 2k or over constantly on bosses such as Rage, gorefiend and others.

*** Information added 3 Minutes and 2 Seconds later... ***

Oh and i give my tank about 15% threat (omen) before i start nuking. yeah i chug mana pots to get in more dps and also losing time from life tapping, I use shatter around the time they're going to pop BL, and my group comp is kinda bad. It's just like another lock, a spriest maybe, a mage, and a shammy. Really trying to find a good boomkin =[

Re: Help with 2k Dps

Shadow priest and shaman are win, thats a great group.. boomkins and ele shamies are just bonus goodies :P

There are several areas where I personally would feel 12 spell damage over the 10 haste would be much better for you, especially in items your breaking socket bonuses on like your boots. Haste is addictive though, and I know the pain of dropping it once you've had it :P

You do (and I know your aware) have more hit than you need, so the 2 gem slots in your gloves are going to waste (current using non epic gems, worth replacing until you get that upgrade) along with all the hit on the fused band, I assume you havent finished the questline for the Hyjal ring since I am sure it would be better given your hit capped.

On a fight like brutallus I need to now give the tanks ~25k lead so that I can time Shater at the right time. A properly timed shatter sets up how much damage you can do the remainder of the fight. Its worth standing still for a few added seconds at the start of the fight if it means you can time your shatter at the point where you can then dps 100% there on out without agro concern. 10-15k shoudl be generous lead

that group comp isn't that bad besides the mage really. my personal opinion you kinda went to overboard on the haste instead of upping your spell damage some first.

Re: Help with 2k Dps

I mean, i had around 1330 SD with just fel armour first and around 130 haste and like 20% crit. I dropped a ton of SD to gain more haste. My plans are going to be get more crit to be 25% or around there at least, and then even out SD to 1300+ with just fel armour. Then pick up haste again. If i regem a lot of my gear, im going to be losing around 20-40 haste which is a huge dps loss. Any help? The reason im getting 25% crit is, a lot of end game locks in my realm told me that 25% without devastation will keep up constant crits to keep ISB up maintaining your DPS factor to hit over 2k dps. That's the reason why and those crits wont hurt your dps, it'll improve it xP!

Re: Help with 2k Dps

Haste is a great stat, dont get me wrong. But if you do not have a good amount of spell damage, your hasted Shadowbolts are not gonna get nearly as much bang for the buck as locks with higher spell damage. You life tap also scaled off spell damage, so from a min/max perspective the added mana returned from life tap shoudl also be concidered.

Your crit level is really only about 1.5% below mine, and I push 2500-3k dps on a single target fight (threat permitting). Crit will not be the magical stat to increase your damage. Stacking haste while your crit and damage is low wont help your damage very much. I really suggest losing some of the haste for spell damage.

Hmm...will do but yeah, a lot of locks told me 25% or around there is the key to maintaining your ISB up, after that stack up straight sd and haste.

First- your group makeup with both sp and a shammy are great. Boomkins are rare to find as the critaura doesnt make up for their lacking dps.

I do around 2-2.1k on Rage, Teron and those typical stand and nuke fights.

My stats unbuffed are:
1324 +shadow w/fel armor
27.8% crit
198 hit
44 haste

Typically I have either a SP or a shaman in group, I do CoE and shatter around 60% (if I am not having a ton of crits in a row, I might need shatter sooner) And of chugging manapots and Life Tap.

So perhaps you sacrifise a bit to much spelldamage and crit for the haste, and it is hurting your dps.

An awesome tool for maximising gear is Rawr. Try download you characther in it, and it will tell you where your gemming/gear hurts Rawr - Home
