Enslaved Doomguard Soulgrips gem/Enchant after 3.0.2
I'm looking for a little advice before I proceed and buy a gem and get an enchant done to my new gloves. I've upgraded from the T4 kara drop gloves which I had enchanted with +15 spell hit (no gem socket). With all the changes in 3.0.2 I'm wondering if I should put either a +10 hit or +10 crit gem in the socket and put the +20 damage enchant on them as opposed to a +10 hit gem and +15 hit enchant. Currently I have 162 +Hit and am playing a full destruction lock. |

Pre patch the hit cap was 202. Now with talents you are hit capped at 164 if I remember correct. Therefore you are very close to hit cap at 162 for destruction spells. I would do the 20 damage enchant and gem for haste/damage to get the gem bonus. |

My advice: NEVER stack crit gems. If you're not hit capped, you stack +hit, if you are hit capped, go with the Reckless Pyrestone (damage/haste). The haste does add up amazingly, and even though people will argue haste vs crit all day long, you can just use your new Firestone on your weapon for an instant 35 (or 45 if talented) crit rating if you need a bit of a crit boost (and you get the 1% extra direct damage). Have a look through the wonderfully awesome guide Gearing Your Warlock (2.4 Edition) - The Warlocks Den Forums that makes it ever-so-simple. The rules I follow: Once you're spell hit capped Red = Pure damage Yellow = damage/Haste Blue = damage/Haste unless the socket bonus is +4 spell damage in which case get the Stam/Haste gem. Obviously as stated you aren't at spell hit yet, which at 16% (talented) is now 164 (like magi) but with the apparent upgrade to 17%, it will be a little bit more. I'd say go with the Reckless Pyrestone and throw on the 15 spell hit.

A quick question. When you talk about being hitcapped at 164 (Talented). Do you mean both Affliction and Destro talents? And which talent helps Shatter? In other words, if I am destro, I shouldn't bother with 202 cap or Suppression? |

No just get the 3% from the destro tree leave suppression out. With Spell hit capp gone up to 17% - 3% from destro tree you should aim for 14% spell hit or 164. As for shatter I dont know cuz Im not even sure that Ive ever got mine resisted |

Shatter unfortunately doesnt benefit from suppression or cataclysm, so if you want to be on the safe side and avoid your shatter being resisted you're better off being fully hitcapped. Keep in mind though that all spells/racials etc are raidwide now. This means that if you are 100% sure to have a draenai in your raid you can add 1% hit from his/her racial. If you have a spriest with misery in each raid that will provide another 3%. I wouldnt entirely count on that though. Should your spriest die your dps might suffer from it. All in all it comes down to your personal preference whether or not you decide to aim for 164 hit and use talents or keep your hit a bit higher just to be safe. |

Oh I forgot about the raidwide buffs. :D Hmm...guess I'll stick with the 164 hitcap, and see how the Kael fight will go tomorrow. :D |
