Average Spell Damage at 80?

Just curious what sort of numbers I should be shooting for, just hit 80 and I'm feeling pretty happy at over 2000 spell power with Fel Armor up and my demon out - I'm still grinding through quests and I know Demo tends to have higher SP overall, but it sure seems like a solid number with little to no effort on my part. Guess I'm looking for my wakeup call that tells me I'm way below what I could/should be.

Thanks!

Re: Average Spell Damage at 80?

it depends what you want to do. if you want to raid 10 mans you are probably a little low but not by much at all just run some heroics and the gear you will get should be fine. Its nothing to worry about in my opinion.

Re: Average Spell Damage at 80?

I was sitting at around 1700 spell power with demon and fel armor out when I started raiding as 0/41/30, so 2k already for you sounds pretty good! I'm sitting at close to 1600 with no demon/fel armor, and about 2200 with both out, and I'm in almost all epics now.

I was the only hybrid warlock raiding on several runs with a couple of guildies specced into affliction and deep destro, who were way better geared than I was. My higher spell power almost cost me some much-needed upgrades, as this was all that loot council was considering, rather than build/base damage. Took various conversations with the officers, but I managed to make my point. You may have to watch out for this.

Apologies if the formatting looks weird, my phone's browser tends to rebel on me.

Re: Average Spell Damage at 80?

at 2000, you're fine. Now the big picture starts at your base stats. You're at 1482 base sp completely unbuffed. So all in all, not bad. Mine's only 129 points higher and i'm ilvl200+ gear. But you need to work on your other stats. Hit first. Get it to at least 300 for now since you need to focus on heroics and then start working on haste or crit. I'd suggest speccing 0/51/20 for the time being while you level to get some much needed extra stats (ex. crit and sp). I'll even tell you where to go to get your gear better.
Head: Hat of Wintry Doom (CRAFT) cheap.
Neck: What you have now is fine.
Shoulders: Dark Runic Mantle (H HoS or buy it on the AH because it's BoE)
Back:
Chest: Ebonweave Robe or t7 is fine now. (T7 chest 80 Emlems of Heroism) The Ebonweave Robe will run you about 1k g.
Wrist: Azure Cloth Bindings (H VH)
Gloves: Ebonweave Gloves (craft)
Belt: Plush Sash of Guzbah (40 Emblem of Heroism)
Leggings: Woven Leggings of the Bracae (H HoL)
Feet: Sandals of Crimson Fury (Wyrmrest Accord - Exalted)
Ring1: Titanium Spellshock Ring (Craft) - 1200g
Ring2: Ring of Northern Tears (Craft) - CHEAP TOO!
Trinket 1: Sundial of the Exiled (40 Emlems of Heroism)
Trinket 2: Mark of the War Prisoner (H VH)
Weapon: Flameheart Spell Scalpel (Kirin Tor - Revered)
Off Hand: Ward of the Violet Citadel (25 Emblem of Heroism)

Get that stuff and you should be set to start doing naxx with pretty darn good starting stats.

Re: Average Spell Damage at 80?

For 5 man heroics 1800 no deamon no buffs .2233 with 2 points in aegis (spirit bonus) also 2 points in the pup and ready for a heroic i have got alot of mileage out of the spirit buffs due to pvp gear on the back and bracers. I would trade it in short for a decent build with 5 points (all that aoe crit is awsome)in ruin .But i couldnt agree with devil more ,in a raid situation hit cap is king .I use a addon called hit assist v2.3 that has helped alot so i am not stacking unneeded stats during day to day . So guess if it Bd you are looking for you will be suprised how much spirit is buffing us there. I hope this helps . DAG

Re: Average Spell Damage at 80?

Like it was said earlier depends what you wanna do i dont guess its based on your spell power but your dps for Naxx 10 you need to be around 1700dps starting out.

Re: Average Spell Damage at 80?

Well it's been awhile since I specced deep demo to get those talents that buff spellpower so much, but I can say that a demo lock in the best gear is over 2,5k spellpower and close to 3k spellpower. The demo spec buffs your spellpower considerably, but the key is that he is going to have ~30%crit or more (easily 40) and maybe 20% haste (around 650rating.) The most important stat by far is hit which caps at 17% now and considering raid buffs and talents you need about triple the hit I see on your armory. 290 rating for hit is a baseline for raiding although more is always better since you can't rely totally on a shadow priest or druid with imp faerie fire to give you 3% or I suppose in your case that 1% or whatever that a dranei gives.

Ok so I wrote a wall of text in response to your question and then realized I didn't really know what your goals were. PVE or PVP? My response was mostly from a pve perspective.

Re: Average Spell Damage at 80?

Not currently being demo I'm not exactly sure what to expect from that buff. My goal was to self buff to 2000 spell power as affliction before trying 25s. Since I have several different sets of gear I swap out for raids depending on who's in the group and how much hit I need (10, 11, 13 or 14%) I can't say exactly how much spell power I have. I know I typically raid buff to 2400+ with fel armor as affliction spec, so no demo buff. From what I have been told, though, this would put me around 3k if I specced demo and had totems. This kind of spell power will get you over 4k dps on several 25 man bosses.

For intro raiding this is total overkill (and not possible since half of my gear is from Naxx anyway). I have run with lesser geared locks than you and they didn't embarass themselves by any means. I would bet that if you play your spec well you could step into a 10 man raid right now and break 2k dps, which is perfectly acceptable for most guilds.

When choosing your gear try not to obsess too much about any 1 stat. Look at the big picture. You need hit, spell power, crit, haste, and even spirit (bigger lifetaps). Don't pass on a piece with 50 more crit than your current piece just because it has 10 less spell power. Just get the best gear you can for your situation. For most people that means farming heroics and rep for the best pre-raid gear. I know that's how I started.

Re: Average Spell Damage at 80?

Again, thanks for the feedback all - but as many of you said, I kind of put the question out there without really stating what my intended goals were. To be honest, I'm not entirely certain myself; I'm a pretty casual player anymore, my guild consists of 3-4 good friends and our numerous alts so raiding isn't really much in the picture unless I want to start PUGing (*shudder*). I'm usually stuck healing our few and far between 5-man runs with my Holy Pally so my lock tends to just be my soloing and PvP toon, but we've recently gotten a new member who's quickly leveling up a priest so I may be able to set foot in a dungeon or two with my 'lock one of these days. I guess ultimately my goal would be gearing for heroics, with a small glimmer of a chance of running an occasional 10- or 25-man.

Also, I know my +hit is low for 80, but as I've just hit the Basin for quests and I'm typically killing mobs 3-4 lvls lower than me it hasn't been much of an issue up to this point; I'll be swapping in more +hit gear as need merits. Thanks!
