Not sure if this is the best place to put this, but I have made another BiS calculator for warlocks.

I liked optigear a lot but it wasn't quite easy/quick enough to change my gear selection. I generaly like to plan my upgrades, or figure out what I need to swap out/in order to keep my hit total up (we have no SPs or moonkins!).

Anyway here it is, instructions on the web page.
GearComp - WoW warlock gear calculator

Any comments are welcome. Its pretty much finished and works well for me, but if anyone wants anything in it let me know. Data is taken from rawr and should be current.

I like it. It looks nice, has a good documentation, easy to modify weights etc, and it runs platform independent.

Can't say a lot about the results because either it crashed or I just didn't wait long enough for it to finish. Will have a look later.

Thanks lil, currently it just does a brute force search which while acurate is a little slow.
I'll have a look on speeding it up.

When I'm not spewing green fire on my warlock, I like to spray bullets on my hunter.

The tool that you're creating sounds a lot like the spreadsheet a lot of hunters use to look at dps and gear upgrades. Link to the website is
http://www.femaledwarf.com/. It provides for armory import of talents and gear, and also generates a string to use to the companion site Hunter Loot, where you can browse gear upgrades by slot. I absolutely love it on my hunter, and been pining for one for my warlock.

If you could do something like that for your tool, I would be your number 1 fan. It'll let me and others browse at work where security programs block java programs, and alleviate computer security concerns people might have at running unknown java programs.

Unfortunately, all I get at work is:
Code:
java.lang.Exception
    at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.continueLaunch(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.handleApplicationDesc(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.handleLaunchFile(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.run(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
Might have something to do with running 64bit XP

Thats odd, I run 64bit my self. Are you running the 64bit version of java too, perhaps thats it.

I've changed the application to apply pruning to the search so it operates a lot faster. I can calculate the entire itemset in under 10 seconds now. Should fix it for you.

It means I can only show the best item set now, I'll update the instructions soon.

Something like that did cross my mind (I used to like using lootrank), I just didn't want to use my precious web server CPU cycles with people calculating all the time (or perhaps thats just wishful thinking ).

If there's interest I may give it a look shouldn't be too hard to put a web front end on it.

It would appear to be related to my firewall or some other retarded IT snafu here. I get the same exact results on the 32bit machines. I'll just have to check it out at home then.

yeah, my firewall complained about some website requesting access to my pc... bit strange... though I probably clicked yes the first time :/

the old version seemed to work after I reduced the amount of gear to choose from to a bare minimum (1-2 items per slot). The treatment of hit rating seems to be a bit odd though at least I had the impression that my manually imposed cap (342) was not used and the "best" sets had 4xx hit.

If the gear set is below the hit cap you provide then a penalty is subtracted from the score for each hit rating point below the hit cap.

If the gear set is above the hit cap no penalty is subtracted.

Could it be that some of your +hit gear has a better score then your non +hit gear so it would use them anyway?

Added some new features:

Search is now pruned and much faster
Tooltips displayed when hovering over gear items
Double-clicking items brings up item in wowhead
Horde and PVP items added
Import from armory added

Re: Gear comparison tools

ok, that might well have been the case.

Import from armory is very welcome... it's a pain to go through all the item slots and select something.

Is it possible to display a stat summary below the resulting gear lists?
