Assume you get a new item that has 10 spellpower less, but more spirit. All other stats are equal. How much more spirit must be on the item so that it is an upgrade? My answer would be: 10/0.59 ~ 17 spirit (disregarding the Kings buff) 10/0.649 ~15.4 spirit (taking into account the King's buff) |

For all specs (except Deep Destro) 10 Spi converts to 5.9SP (10*0.59). For Deep Destro: 10 Spi converts to ROUGHLY (and effectively, but not directly) 6.5 SP (10*0.65).*** So to select the gear: convert the Spi to Sp for your spec, and add that number to the Sp for that same piece of gear. Then compare the result to the SP of the other piece of gear. Highest number wins, assuming all else equal. And if the 2 SP numbers are identical, then the one with the Spi wins, as it aids your mana regeneration. Example (Affli): gear 1: 100SP and 80Spi | 80Spi * 0.59 = 47.2SP so effective SP = 100 + 47.2 = 147.2 gear 2: 150SP gear 2 wins for Affli Example (Deep Destro): gear 1: 100SP and 80Spi | 80Spi * 0.65 = 52SP so effective SP = 100 + 52 = 152 gear 2: 150SP gear 1 wins for Deep Destro Make sense? Hope so. *** From my previous post: Take your damage calculations from a raid to work out your conversion rate: 0.71(x)+0.59(1-x) where x = (Total CB damage + Total Inc damage)/Total damage. |

Yeah, makes sense. I still don't agree with you, but I think we have to accept that here... the difference is small after all... Cheers, and thanks for a nice discussion ;) |

Re: How to calculate spirit into SP?
So I can calculate an upgrade by only multiplying the 0.59 by the amount of spirit on the gear? Or must I add it to the total amount of spirit I have first? |

Total Spellpower on a piece of gear is calculated by: Spellpower + (Spirit * 0.59) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=49484 = 150 + (99 * 0.59) = 208.41 (Rounds down to 208) http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47789 = 151 + (86 * 0.59) = 201.74 (Rounds down to 201) Don't forget to add in gems and relevant socket bonuses. After gems, the Skullcap still wins: 231 vs 228
