Threat meters

Quick question: are threat meters any use outside of raids? I'm thinking of installing Omen for instances but if I've read correctly it only works if all others in the party have it.

Re: Threat meters

you can use Omen or KTM when soloing (as you can balance your and your pet's threat (if needed ofc)), in party or in raid.
If only you have it, Omen or KTM take data parsing the combact log (that is buggy, and has a client side range). So the raw data that threat meters use are inaccurate, and so is the result.
Both KTM and Omen can write and read in an hidden chat channel the damage data they dig into combact log, and share it ot other's threat meter.
So EVERY Omen or KTM user read threat from same data. More reliable, and the calculated threat is the same for everyone.

Re: Threat meters

I use omen sometimes when I'm questing with my voidwalker, since he has limited threat abilities. It's nice just to have that little warning when a mob is going to come running for me... especially if it's one of those group quests I'm trying to solo .

I would say that Omen is still valuable in cases where everyone does not have a threat meter installed, even if it's not exactly accurate. I think, as a squishy afflic lock, having some idea of when you might be in trouble is better than blindly dps'ing. Just keep in mind that your meter isn't accurate and work from there.

Re: Threat meters

I suggest installing it and leaving it running all the time. It's always a bonus to be doinga 5-man and see when your tank or other dps has a threat meter installed.

Re: Threat meters

Agreed. My guild uses Omen (we chose the same version to install as well). We mainly only do 5-man's but it is very useful for us as well. And as someone else stated, it's nice to go into an PUG instance and see others in your party are also outfitted with the hope of threat management.

I'd get it and leave it running.

Definately a good idea. If you run with guildies (assuming they all use Omen as well), it'll be lovely. And if it's a pug, just cross your fingers that the tank has it

Re: Threat meters

Cool, sounds like it's worth installing. I was in a PUG the other day and my FG was drawing aggro away from the tank and it would be good to be able to manage that as far as possible. Thanks all.

Re: Threat meters

i would go as far as to say its indispencable to 5 man raiding.ESP as a destruction lock,we are aggro whores. With lousy tanks just 1 shadowbolt and i can almsot pull aggro form the tank o.0

Omen( thats what i use) shows threat lvls of each member in the 5 man, works same way as for raids and on the same principal thats why its so useful.DPSers shd nv pull form tanks and omen is the msot valuable tool you have towards that goal

-edit- i reread the original post and yes omen only works if everyone in thye party has it.Thus if you pug and everyone else doesnt have it = no use.but then i normally run with gulidies and msot pugs doing heroics at do raid kara at least and thus have omen

I've found Omen to be very reliable, very accurate and far superior to KTM.

Yes, everybody in the party needs to have a threat meter for them to be useful. Yes, they are VERY useful. :D
