Warlock Macros - Suggestions & "Must Haves"

Hi all,

I was hoping to get feedback on what everyone uses for their macros for Warlock actions.

Something like this:

/xxxx do something = this will kick the crap out of the mob

Something that is descriptive about the action and has the macro code required.

Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated. I need to get some macros going!

Thanks in advance!

Re: Warlock Macros - Suggestions & "Must Haves"

newbie to macros - and would bump this request (even though there are several threads on macros...)

stupid things I would love are:

best macro for trash mob (noncaster)
best macro for trash mob (caster)
best general macro for boss (if any)

in general no frills macros (for no brainers like me) and opinionated stances like those of Canadianpimp

Re: Warlock Macros - Suggestions & "Must Haves"

I guess ya wuld be better off reading the stuff thats already on there.
All a macro will do is cast the spells you want in the order you wat with 1 button instead of the load.
It depends so much on stats, talents and preferences on how to kill what, that you just need to remember how YOU like / use to kill a mob, and just make a macro for that.
Also, since you will likely do it different in different siatuations : like, you running away, how many adds how close by, how many of the mobs at the same time, etcetera.
Since most have diff opinions on that, you will get 100's of macros, doing the same differently.
Just get a macro how-to, remember how YOU take it and put that in.
Way easier, and will allways suit you.

Re: Warlock Macros - Suggestions & "Must Haves"

Pervlock,

agree with your view, but macros how-to are sometimes (i) outdated, (ii) too specific (iii) too long to amend (iv) whenever I personally edit one (or try to do one myself) i end up with errors/resets/etc etc.

I gave a read to wowwiki and to macro threads here, but, unfortunately, found little or no specific answers to my questions.

Happy to post my macros here as follows, and spring the debate (not sure the last one works, but the first two do work).

***************
trashmob
***************
#showtooltip
/petattack
/cast [modifier:alt] Amplify Curse
/castsequence reset=target Siphon Life,Corruption,Curse of Agony,Unstable Affliction,Life Tap,Drain Life,Drain Soul(Rank 1)

***************
trashcaster
***************
#showtooltip
/petattack
/cast [modifier:alt] Amplify Curse
/castsequence reset=target Siphon Life,Curse of Tongues,Corruption,Unstable Affliction,Life Tap,Drain Life,Drain Soul(Rank 1)

***************
Bossfight
***************
#showtooltip
/use 13
/use 14
/castsequence reset=target Amplify Curse,Unstable Affliction,Curse of Doom,Immolate,Corruption,Siphon Life,Life Tap,Drain Life

Re: Warlock Macros - Suggestions & "Must Haves"

As a demon lock i unfortunately miss some of the xp for your build.
However, what i understand from aff ( was one first levels, will be one again soon )
you often are better off sendin in the pet and wait a bit for aggro, or pull, send get aggro start castsequence, or it will be hard for pet to hold aggro ( assuming vody )
Thus i myself would not put pet into the macro, but would do more like :
MANUAL : siphon ( draw )
MANUAL : Send pet
Wait till you feel enough aggro has been taken
Get the rest out.
However, i would first play with siphon and Curse of Agony / corr and see how long pet would need to hold aggro, if thats desired, before running the rest, so you could do the first macro part, Siphon life AND Curse of Agony and still have pet keep aggro ( or more )

Also i would suggesting Curse of Agony before Corr.
Difference with casters would only be CoT instead of Curse of Agony and maybe wand / whatever to interrupt casting instead of draining life, but depends on health and damage

Bossfight, no clue at the moment how to best do that as aff. ( at all actually )
I guess that to depends on the boss. Since they have pretty changing stats / attacks / defenses, weaknesses and strengths.
Also with a boss you will prolly have a completely diff pet managemend. Would not do that in macro anyways.

Re: Warlock Macros - Suggestions & "Must Haves"

I only really have 1 attack macro and it goes something like:
/cast Amplify Curse
/use 13
/use 14
/castsequence reset=target Curse of Agony, Corruption, Siphon Life.

That's it. I'll usually create similar macros based on the above like:
Macro without the curse so I can add one adhoc.
Macro without the Amplify Curse so I can use only Amplify on my CoD macro (like for Curator or Netherspite)

Other spells like UA or Immolate, I'll use a hotkey for but never add them to my macros. I don't want TOO much macro'd..if one gets resisted, its a pain to get it added unless you go thru the whole sequence.

I also have Fear, Banish and Seduce macro's that utilize /focus but they aren't available atm since I'm at work.

Here is the BEST macro you can use for a destruction lock:

#showtooltip Shadow Bolt
/use 13
/use 14
/cast Shadow Bolt

... Only macro you'll need... Enjoy!

This macro works well for all builds - as long as you are casting SB's and want to power your trinket before the SB cast.

I personally don't like the 'string-cast' macros because spells 'will' get resisted every now and then, particularly in raiding situations when you are going after mobs at a higher level than you are.
It's better (IMO), to bind your spells to the keyboard than to rely on an auto-cast macro.

The best macro's in my arsenal are
* focus seduce
* focus fear macro
* Trinket popper macro simular to the one above
* Multi-pet macro that checks what pet I have out and seduces/intercepts/spell-locks

All of these macros can be found on this forum
