Deadly Boss Mod Vs BigWigs

These two mods seem to be the favourites for the raiding Warlock. Time to put them head to head and see which one really is the preffered mod.

Please feel free to include your thoughts on why you picked the one you did. This thread will be linked from the recommended add-ons page.

Maybe its bias from Classic Wow but I always found DBM to have more accurate timers and it just "felt" nice to use - enough said.

Re: Deadly Boss Mod Vs BigWigs

bigwigs... also littlewig... seems to be updated more often then DBM tho i dunno.

the main plus for me is it's avaliable on wowace.

I open up one program to update 100 odd mods. not individually download them from half a dozen site

Since I have only used deadly boss mods and so does everyone else in the guild, I would say this addon is fine. I should check out bigwigs just to see how this addon performs.

Re: Deadly Boss Mod Vs BigWigs

I have used both mods extensively.
Bigwigs is nice its Ace but I found many of the timers were out by quite a margin,
DBM is also nice and has a few more features than bigwigs, the timers are much more accurate tho still not spot on.
For me its DBM all the way now.

There's also one very important thing to consider:
Use whatever your guild "chooses". Ab Aeterno uses BigWigs, so if someone uses DBM and they die because of a missing communication feature, it's their own fault and I'll let them take the blame for using the wrong addon

About the more accurate comments...

as far as I know most of the timers in DBM are ripped straight out from BigWigs.

Re: Deadly Boss Mod Vs BigWigs

IMO, for raiding, they are one and the same. DBM used Bigwings timers in the past and the contrary is true as well. Who ripped from who isn't the important issue, imo.

To my knowledge, here is what separates separates them from each other (feel free to add more)

- Lilwings: its Bigwings but for 5man instances. DBM doesn't have it.
- Bigwings is an Ace addon, and easier to update via the updater.
- DBM has the feature that gives reports to people that aren't in the raid, if they whisper you. If they whisper you /status, it will warn them when the boss died.

Personally, i prefer Bigwings BUT understand this: most guilds use the raid warnings feature, that both have, to warn the raid of whats going on. There wont be such thing as a miss communication between addons because: a) they use same timers, b) raid warnings make up for any failure. More important than having the addon that tells you when things are coming, is knowing that it isn't 100% bulletproof.

That raid whisper thingy, Malboro, is added to BigWigs by installing SimpleBossWhisperer from World of Warcraft Addons - WowAce.com .

Re: Deadly Boss Mod Vs BigWigs

I use BigWigs, mostly because one of the other raiders uses DBM, so I wanted to see how they compare. Perhaps in the past, timers were off, etc., etc., however, from my experience raiding with BigWigs, and the other raider doing warning calls for those of us that don't have a boss mod in the raid, the timers seem to be the same. I know Big Wigs has saved my life a time or two. I should probably try DBM, though, just to get the comparison.
