Best UI for locks
Hey guys - I've used the basic WoW interface for as long as I can remember. I was looking at the "Show us your UI" thread and thought about making a change to one of them. As of right now the only addons I use are recount, omen, necrosis, DBM, atlasloot, and bejewelled (for passing time). I really want to change up the interface. A lot of UI's I see have bags laid out in the middle. Some have like the hp/mana bar in a circle around your character. I'm a total noob in this area of UIs. Do UIs come with a package of addons? Do you have to DL addons one at a time? Any recommendations? Help please |

Re: Best UI for locks
I've always been a fan of making custom UI. That's what I would recommend to anyone simply because each person has different needs and preffers to see the game in a different way. What you end up doing is really based on what your specc is, if you're a clicker or not, and what order and what keys you like to use. Also, another important aspect is where you want to look at the most. You should go to curse.com and check out some of the addons they have there, then just keep experimenting with them until you like something. Try to keep it as light on memory as possible (which you can see in the same place you see your lag. I personally use titan for watching this stuff constantly). To answer your questions, you can get both Full UIs or individual addons to make your own custom one. |

it's all up to your personal preference, as i am sure you saw in the Show Off Your UI Thread, i like a lot of viewing area for the game, and less buttons and bars blocking everything, so i went small with everything, i put everything i need at it's smallest (but viewable) setting. i also have two different chat windows, one for trade and combat text and all the jazz, and one just for party chat, whispers and guild chat... that keeps everything nice and organized. so it's really up to what you like, i have seen screens that are completely covered with UI stuff, and i could not stand that. so think about what you want, and start downloading, you may be a noob now, but the best thing to do is put on your floaties and jump in, thats the only way to learn. lol For addons, i would recommend curse.com they have a full selection of Addons, wowinterface isn't bad either, i just don't use it that much. i also use bagfu, durabilityfu, currencyfu (incredible) and tons more, just surf curse and see what you need and download it!

Just one good advice: Make sure you have enough time on your hands when you start messing around with your UI. Usually you end up with an unusable UI after installing, and it can take some time to fix everything. In addition, it will take some time to get used to the changes, e.g. to the new positions of health bars etc. I'd recommend one of the precompiled UI packages, e.g. CaithUI as mentioned above. From there you can still start customizing. SpartanUI is also a possibility that looks good out of the box... personally I didn't find it useful though. |

I have probably been using a custom ui for 3 years. It all depends on your play style and raid roll to what addons and preferences. I run something like the Caith UI. FOund at Caith UI (4:3) : WoWInterface Downloads : Plug-Ins & Patches I have more buttons but using the options in Dominoes I have hidden them in certain areas. When I mouse ove that are the bars show up. Good luck. |

Re: Best UI for locks
For a first time user, I would highly recommend Caith's UI. I have used it and I like it very much. I am currently using a modified version of OommUI 3, which is very similar to Skullflower's UI (up-to-date), but that might appeal to someone who is much more of a minimalist. =) Caith's UI (Widescreen) ...the poster above gave a link to the non-widescreen if you prefer... Caith UI (16:10) : WoWInterface Downloads : Graphical Compilations Skullflower's UI (also widescreen) Skullflower's UI : WoWInterface Downloads : Minimalistic Compilations

The pre-packaged UIs can be pretty and all. But now your gameplay is dependent on not only the mods involved, but also the UI packager. And if some bar or notification starts popping up on your screen that you don't like and you want to know how to get rid of it, you don't even know what mod it's coming from. On patch day, you not only have to wait for the mod authors to fix their stuff, you need the UI packager to come up with a new package. You really surrender a lot of control that way. I would recommend adding one mod at a time and figuring out how it works and what it can do before adding another one. |

Re: Best UI for locks
You could pick up BagSack and !Buggrabber and usually the bugs will tell you which addons are screwing up if the compilation doesn't work. I personally recommend picking up a minimalist UI package that works for you interface wise, and then modifying it to suit your needs.
