Add on to target raid symbols

Is there any add-on (or macro, for that matter) you all know of that allows you to target mobs based on the raid symbol they're marked with? /Target Skull, for example.

Looking at something like that for the chaotic mess that is the ToC Faction Champs fight.

The only addons I can suggest you is this one:

Magic Targets : WoWInterface Downloads : Ace: Combat

The bar are not clickable actually, but you might want to check this addons time to time in case an update allow the click on bar.

You can probably modify the addons if you know how to made the bar clickable though.

Hope this help

Due to the 'secure template' design strategy by Blizzard, it is not possible to target opponents by race, gender, raid icon, etc.
My strategy is to either use Main Tank targets (if the RL actually sets MTs), or to tab through til I get the Skull on my target.

I'm an ol fashioned I'd rather run with no addons then any (even though I have like 3) and the way I would do it is focus on one of the tanks /focus Imatank or click on the tank to get their portrait up, right click on portrait and set focus, that will make a little icon specifically for you to see the tank under your party window. You dps your target down, click tank when he switches target hit F and fight the target he is. Ez Pz unless your tank takes forever switching targets, had that issue in MH.

That's not going to work in Champion's fight. It's basically a free for all where the tank's target isn't your cc target which isn't one of the two other mobs that are busy whacking you over the head with Mortal Strikes.

The fight itself is too chaotic to tab through efficiently and even with name plates up, with 16 mobs in a scrum, it's hard to target anything.

Think what I'll do is just make six macros with /target, make a new action bar for them and just update names before the fight. Otherwise, it's just too much of a mess...

My strategy is to either use Main Tank targets (if the RL actually sets MTs), or to tab through til I get the Skull on my target.
If there are no tank targets, I use an addon called Liteassist which dynamically sets my assist. I usually keybind it to assist whomever in the raid seems to be pretty savvy with the first mob to kill if I'm being lazy.

Or in general even if there are tank targets, I'll tend to use it to assist the one I want anyway for my role in the raid as a convenience factor.

It's pretty nice for situations where really it doesn't matter which mob is being focus fired, you just want to make sure everyone is on the same page (eg thorim tunnel is more efficient with focus fire, demo lashers on freya so you pop them one at a time after initial AOE, etc) Yet clearly in these sorts of situations it's a pain to always be marking skull over and over again

Re: Add on to target raid symbols

Will something like this work to target whatever the main tank is targetting?

before combat set focus on main tank
/target focus
/target [target=targettarget]

What I want to do is DPS whoever the main tank is targetting. Are there any downsides to an approach like this? What do I need to do to target someone other then the main tank's target, do I have to clear my focus? How would a macro like this effect my pet's targetting?

You might even be able to get away with:
/target focustarget

I will give that a try. How would I target someone other the my focus's target the same way I would normally or is there something special about using that method of targetting?

You could just use tab, OR - there is a bindable key in the keybinding interface, which allows you to switch target between your last two targets, kind of like when playing Counter-Strike - When you run out of ammo, you click a button and the weapon you used right before that weapon appears. This way you can switch between the same two targets in a whole group of mobs.... or you could just try to click them? ;)
