lilsteele: If you have say some T8 and some T9, would you go with the Raid_T9 or Raid_T8? The scale factors you have used for a shaman in the raid are pretty identical to what i had for myself, so i'd be happy to use those as a guideline for myself rather than messing around, though if T9 would be a better option then would you mind running it for T9 also? Ah yes. I didn't realise you could open it with notepad (ouch), have done that and is computing now. By doing this can you still run through different profiles from wowhead using these new scale factors? Since you're not exactly using your own, you are just using the ones for your specified spec. Just so i can use simcraft to compare gearsets. |

Use the save option to save your wowhead or armory profile, e.g. as Jenren1.simcraft and Jenren2.simcraft. Then you add the corresponding lines to your Raid_XX.simcraft file, e.g. Warlock_T9_00_13_58.simcraft Jenren1.simcraft Jenren2.simcraft ... It's a bit cumbersome, but the only way to do this as far as I know. |

As much as I love Warlock's Den, the Warlock Simcraft on Elitist Jerks is likely the definitive forum for understanding and tweaking simcraft: SimulationCraft for Warlocks Note that many of the folks on that forum actually checkin changes to simulationcraft source code itself, so it can get kind of heady and math-heavy at times. It's not a forum for a user looking for basic advice; read it carefully and make sure you have prepared your question before submitting there. Having said that, though, there are interesting tidbits one can glean from reading it (even if you never post a question). For example, you can tell simcraft to run a simulation against a Wowhead profile, like this: ./simcraft wowhead=your-profile-number-here html=Your CharacterName.html If you have created a profile in Wowhead (free), then just grab the number off the end of the URL and put it in the wowhead argument of the command-line above, and simcraft will tell you what your optimal damage would be--plus a lot of other interesting stats. Using the html parameter just formats the output nicely as a page you can view in your browser, instead of having to scroll through your command-line window. As I am evaluating gear choices for future upgrades, I often make multiple profiles with slightly different names (and gear/gem/enchant arrangements), just so I can compare simcraft results. Then, I just run simcraft against each one, and pick the one that has the better dps across a few runs. Handy! |

That's all very well but Simcraft is meaningless if you don't run the optimal raid setup, thus it is useless for 10man raiders. I have posted on there recently. Though unfortunately i can guess that most people who do all this work on EJ have 25man raids with the optimal setup, thus never have this problem. Ok, the stat weights i got for 13/58 in T9: Weights : Sta=0.00 Int=0.35 Spi=0.87 SP=1.33 Hit=3.7 Crit=0.92 Haste=1.2 in T8: Weights : Sta=0.00 Int=0.19 Spi=0.89 SP=1.40 Hit=2.90 Crit=0.70 Haste=1.45 This was for the following classes (taken from the T8 test) 6713 15.1% Warlock_T8_03_13_55 6692 15.0% Mage_T8_57_03_11 6640 14.9% Warlock_T8_00_13_58 6551 14.7% Druid_T8_58_00_13 6143 13.8% Priest_T8_13_00_58 6142 13.8% Priest_T8_13_00_58_SWD 5573 12.5% Paladin_T8_05_11_55 The main thing to notice is the fact that in T9 gear, crit is valued higher than spirit. In T8 gear, spirit is valued higher than crit. The funny thing is, i have 2 piece T8 and 2 piece T9, complicating this further. I also repeated lots of tests several times, running the raid_T9 and T8 as follows in the simcraft file (quoted from raid_T9): #!simcraft max_time=300 Globals_T9.simcraft Druid_T9_58_00_13.simcraft Paladin_T9_05_11_55.simcraft Priest_T9_13_00_58_258.simcraft Priest_T9_13_00_58_258_SWD.simcraft Mage_T9_57_03_11.simcraft focus_magic_target=Druid_T9_58_00_13 warlock_T9_03_13_55.simcraft warlock_T9_00_13_58.simcraft MYTOON.simcraft The MYTOON part being my current gear. I'm not too sure where that comes into the calculation as there is no indication of it in the final document, but it does get mentioned in the black box (computing) constantly. I only set iterations at 1000, before it was at 10000 which took absolutely ages and took around 95% cpu, never actually got it to finish. Guess my question is, have i got the right idea? |
